Bought this for my new home build back in March. Builder and plumber wanted to put in a Badger unit but was able to get this one for cheaper so he agreed.

We bought the 3/4 HP version of this. Works well and has much more power than the badger I had in our previous apartment. The so called "noise reduction" is not really a thing. I'm not sure if it's our setup (blanco silgranite single bowl sink and ikea cabinetry) but you can definitely hear it. Sounds like an electric weedeater or high pitched motor. It's about the same as a badger unit. We can definitely hear it throughout our home when it's used in the morning.

If you are looking for sound reduction this one isn't for you. I put the Insinkerator Evolution Compact in my parents home and that is virtually silent. Know it is more expensive than this but good deals can be found on fb marketplace and homedepot/lowes warehouse return stores.

Otherwise it's a good machine. It hasn't struggled with bones, mango seeds, or other hard stuff. It has a removable baffle which is great (meaning you can replace the black rubber piece where water/food go in) without unmounting the unit which was a huge deciding factor for me since my parents previous Frigidaire had no way to replace the baffle. Comes with the electrical cord as well

+1 If you care about the noise and don't urgently need a disposal, wait for a sale/deal and buy one of those. They're very quiet and work well. Disposals last a long time, you won't remember the extra $100 in six years, but it is very satisfying to use the disposal without it sounding like a lawnmower.

An over-powered disposal will just shake your sink even harder, make it operate louder and possibly shake the sink loose from the caulking over time. The noise is coming from the vibration of the sink via the mount, not just the disposal's motor. Best to learn how to evaluate the proper HP for your application instead of just thinking bigger is better (or more power is better in this case).
utter nonsense.

Yea I try to put as much food down the disposal as possible except starches which I just throw out in the grass behind our yard. I live in Kansas City and we are not allowed to put our trash in containers. Have to bag our trash and put it on the side of the street. Anytime we leave food inside of any kind a raccoon or stray cat will tear the bag and they will refuse to pick it up.

I guess it's somewhat good for the environment that I'm not sending food waste to the landfill😂
Don't put food in the the disposal! I know someone who did that and end up very high bill every year to suck it up because it clogged up the pipe.

Owned apartments for 30+ years. Only buy disposers that have a stainless steel grind chamber, and minimum 1/2-horsepower motor. They can last 10-15 ears, while you cheap "badger" insinkerator will generally last 5 years, and may give you problems stalling with heavy load. Buy quality goods, they're not actually expensive considering how long they last.

Not just stainless steel grind chamber, but heavy heavy cast grinding heads. That Costco rebadged insinkerstor evolution mentioned appears to be a great deal unless this Moen also has those. (I doubt it, since if they were, they would show it somewhere.

Good point-- back in the day you could buy disposers which would reverse direction each time they were turned on. The impellers (what you called grinding heads) would last much much longer. Planned Obsolescence didn't die in the 1950's, it's alive today, maybe more so than ever.

I'm so glad to see this post! I'm visiting my mom for Thanksgiving from out of town, and she recently mentioned that her garbage disposal has stopped working. She's getting older and lives alone, so even a 1/3 horsepower disposal would be perfect for her. Plus, she's starting to lose her hearing, so the noise from a garbage disposal isn't a concern. Thank you so much for sharing this, OP! I'm excited to be able to help my mom out and get her a new disposal. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!
Before u go through the hassle (of removing of installing and expense actually buying a new unit) it could simply be jammed. Try the old broom handle in the disposal to unjam it and voila problem fixed!! (Maybe… 😂)

Our Kitchen Aid started leaking last night after Thanksgiving dinner. After some research,, bought this Moen from a big box store at 6:00am. It connected to the in place insinkerator flange and only required a trimming of the down tube to our plumbing.

Runs quiet and is a little slimmer than our old one so we can cram more stuff under our sink.
