There is a reason they don't allow you to test these out in stores. It is on purpose. Because they want you to spend $300 on some negligible improvements to the sound. Change my mind

It's showing the sale price now. I'm torn on this one. There were some channel imbalance issues, even on these special edition versions. People do apparently like the sound if you get a good one. I don't really need one with a battery and I believe once the battery goes - these units are basically useless until you swap it out. The price seems good, though. This is tough.
I have had the regular BL version for years and while at lower volumes you may have some imbalance you can toggle the the power mode and IEmatch to control the output which in turns minimizes the imbalance. The battery has been plug in most of the time and when unplugged seems to last close to what it used to last.

I had the black label many years ago but sold it off. One issue I had with this amp was that if you go from silent to playing audio, the very few milliseconds at the begining of the track would be cut because of the sleep circuit in the amp. Not sure if they finally fixed this, but something to consider. Only happened with USB, not optical

Otherwise a good amp. Definite overkill for IEMs, but good if you're driving demanding headphones. Had no problems running T60p Argons and HE-6

If you want a desktop setup, I would skip this and invest in one of the offerings from Topping, SMSL etc

The bluetooth would be there to connect to your phone, no to wireless headphones 🙄

I bought this 4 years ago at full price, and it's amazing. I run everything from very sensitive IEM's to full-size planar magnetic headphones on it, and it's never had an issue. At this price, it's a steal.

good unit when it came out years ago in 2020. There are so many other comparable (or better) units out there i would definitely shop around. For example the newly released Fiio Q15 is better in every way and on sale for ~$350 (u get hardware EQ, more power, balanced, desktop mode etc etc) . Or the xduo bal2 variant around the same price or the shanling h5? i think its called... that $400 off "sale" is imo deceiving
The Q15 doesn't have close to the power of this model. The Q15 is rated for 1600mw, and this is rated for 4000mw. There is no way you are driving planar magnetic headphones with the Q15. The iFi has way more headroom.

Power max is 4w power continuous is 1.5w straight from headamp dot com. Don't exactly know how they get their values but in no way this can output a constant 4w of power in 16ohm out of a usb c charger. I would trust the 1.5w continuous power rating . There are $1k desktop units with an internal psu that output less like a constant 2w for example.

edit: "1.56 W of continuous power @64 Ω (bursts of 4.1 W possible) in Turbo mode". I smell some marketing BS on their 4W power claim.

Audio science review measured the BL version at 1.7w at 33 ohms, so yes, 4w is BS.

At the end, its a nice, well made amp. I was really impressed with it's build quality and sound when I had it. The buttons, the texture of the anodized body, the hex screws all screamed "expensive".

But at the end, you are right, it's getting a bit long in the tooth compared to modern offerings. But, the ifi micro has a charm and elegance that not that many portable amps cant touch. If you want a solid amp that can drive most headphones you throw at it and you value craftsmanship equally , you'll love this amp. I just don't listen to big headphones on the go, so I sold mine, but I kind of miss it now lol

yeah looks very nicely made. 1.7w s/b still plenty for many headphones out there.
