Please note that these companies have stopped saying "WiFi" and instead use terms like "Direct Connect" which means it directly connects to their servers using WiFi. I like the hardware but I personally avoid anything WiFi since it's just more devices with access to my home's internal network. Several reviews mention connectivity issues as well. Matter protocol is the local-first standard supported by Amazon, Apple, Google etc. and is the way to go.

Based on my cursory understanding of GE Cync. Please let me know if I got it wrong!
Always use your guest network for stuff like this.
'WiFi' is a certification. If this company doesn't use that term it's either because they didn't want to pay for certification or it's just not compliant. Or it uses a different technology, like ZigBee or Bluetooth.

'Direct Connect' means the two devices can directly communicate with each other, without a hub or router (e.g Bluetooth or Ad Hoc WLAN).

I should have known better than to put effort into listing multiple items in a single thread when I posted this deal 9 days ago. https://slickdeals.net/f/17071549-amazon-ge-cync-smart-home-sales-10-ft-light-strip-bundle-10-3-pack-smart-plug-21-wire-free-motion-sensor-14-and-more-fs-w-prime-or-on-35?v=1&src=SiteSearch

Wish my experience was similar. None of my Cync stuff ever wants to connect to Alexa which is infuriating. For whatever reason, Cync is the only one that my system can never find. Kasa, Lenovo, Hue, Eufy, Go sund, etc all work great. Not sure what the issue is with GE products.

Tested with 4 different lights and had the same results unfortunately. I will be staying away from this brand from the smart connectivity perspective. The lights themselves seemed to be fine.

I've already bought into the Cync ecosystem. I'm 13 bulbs, 9 downlights and 10 hexagons in so far. So this sounds like a great deal. The app is excellent and I've had almost no issues at all. Their support has also been good, even received great responses on their subreddit.

They all still work when your Internet is down, correct?

Depends on the switch, wouldn't it?

Probably cannot control the color without the internet, but every other smart bulb and strip still work as a light when you plug them in. I don't see a controller in the photos, and the description speaks to an app or assistant only.

Some of the worse brands of lighting I have tried sadly default to "unicorn vomit" mode by default ...instead of something basic like white. I'd be curious what the default mode on these are. Given GE's reputation, I'd expect a white default.

For $10 I'm in to try. Can't be worse connectivity than my crappy Wemo switches!

Can I buy 3 sets And connect to get a continuous strip for room ? Amazon description does not say any about that!

I already have govee delivered yesterday but not sure which one to choose? G E is there in market for long time
Due to power constraints, my guess is anything over 160" per plug will experience issues.

Is there a possibility of snipping off and adding your own LED controller?

Switching all my failing 5 year old Hue strips to Cync, about 30% brighter

Are you saying that because you have previously compared? Or just based on what they list?

I too am curious to compare these with Hue.

One of the pictures says that this is compatible with the Google Home app (whereas the other two options list both Google + Alexa "via the Cync App". Does that mean that Google will natively recognize this? Has anyone tried without using GE's app?

This or some more Govee lights?

Govee 100%. These are the thicker "jelly-like" strip lights. So they are heavier and the sticky take fails easily due to this. The giver's are like paper thin and stick like hell. I'm sticking with them.

I have around 50 smart devices connected to a dedicated cheap wifi5 router. Guests connect to the same router, no complaints
