I think you're thinking of the ones that don't have a sub-out on them (the one in OP has the ability to connect to a subwoofer) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...4IRUQ&th=1

I think my wife would finally kill me if I got another set of powered bookshelf speakers, but I love the 1700s so much that I'm thinking about getting another set at this price.

R1850DB does. They are on sale but have been lower, and their price is really getting up there.

I have the R1280DBs and they sound great imo. I have them below my monitor but previously had them to the sides. Recommend them though especially for the price. (ignore the lights being different white temps - fixed that as it was a bug in the hue app)

yes and thanks for pointing that out. But the 1850 is not Bluetooth 5.0 and thus do not have lossless transmission. Not sure if there may be a big difference in terms of sound quality reproduction given the small size and lack of low end without a sub woofer.

Have a pair w/o BT, amazing speakers. I have them connected to keyboards/synthesizers.

I did a side by side comparison of the two and actually preferred the less expensive 1280DBs. Both male and female vocals were really suppressed on the 1700s. I prefer to use them with a sub but if you crank the bass knob and listen at reasonable levels they are OK with out a sub.

Is 1700 worth it over 1280? What are the best use cases for both? Would these work fine as speakers for a TV?

Umm.... I don't think so.

Still, they aren't so great. I was going to buy a pair and saw all online ratings were saying they sound bad Frown

Will they work fine with the DAC https://us.creative.com/p/sound-b...laster-x3? Also I have an older 5.1 surround from Logitech that I enjoy when using games because if the spatial immersion. I assume going to a 2 speaker setup, you really miss out on that correct?
