I think it's pretty messed up of Citi to continuously offer 15% on Black Friday every year, as if that's their major doorbuster point-exchange deal, and have people cash out all of their points for that, thinking they just got an amazing deal... and then just few days later like clockwork, Citi ups it to 20% but now those people don't have any points left to get them because they already used them all up on Black Friday. I feel bad for those who saw that 15% and fell for the bait.
Lesson is to accumulate Citi points til Cyber Monday every year specifically for this promo on Apple GC's; do NOT fall for their Black Friday "deal". Citi really should instead just make it 20% for Black Friday thru Cyber Monday. Not that 15% crap.
I was waiting for the 20% like they do every year - redeemed 75k worth of points

You can't redeem them for cash? I see them as cash. Whenever I buy anything with my Citi double cash, I treat the 2% back as something I have paid out of my pocket that I am getting back, and not a free gift.
There are deals using certain specialty credit cards where you earn 10-15% BONUS TYP on grocery, gas, utility, restaurant, etc. Bonus points are in addition to regular 1-2% TYP.
Thank GOD! Those bonus points make these GC free for me. Or I wouldn't buy Apple products...
Redeeming for cash or direct shopping is wasting value of TYP.

Got it. I just get the usual 2% back as I only have Citi double cash. So redeeming my 55k points for $550 cash seems to be the best thing to do as I am not in the Apple software ecosystem and was only interested in their hardware, all of which is priced a lot higher than retailers. Maybe I'll redeem 8k points for a $100 H&M gc, but other than that, the remaining $470 will go straight into my pocket.

Well you can buy Airline tickets or motels with them but they have different gift cards at times. I got 300 a few weeks ago in Citi that is a 1 for all gift card has lots of different fast food places etc on it.

Most of the time the regular sales are only 10% though so not great. I can usually get better than that at my grocery store. I have a ton of points banked, not sure what to do with them. Keep waiting for a definite use, but haven't found one yet. The Travel portal thing is a bit intimidating and varies quite a bit. I know you can get killer deals there but seems like a lot of work and limiting for when/where.
I don't think the Costco Citi Card I've would work for this?
No, all of the cash back earned throughout the year from your Citi Costco card is sent out as part of your Costco rewards check (which includes the cash back you earned from Citi combined with the 2% cash back earned from your Costco executive membership if you have one). They can't be redeemed for Citi TYP.

I'm in the same boat. From my research, most agree that redeeming for travel maximizes the TYP value (over gc or cash redemption), but I haven't quite figured out the way to find airfare and hotel deals through the Citi portal. I'd love to hear from any SDers who have figured out how to maximize their TYP redemption through Citi's travel portal.
I did learn from this thread that TYP rewards redemption with a Rewards+ card gets you 10% points back, so I'm going to look into whether that works similarly to the Chase ecosystem…if so, I might open another Citi card to maximize redemption.

I believe the best use of TYP for travel is not going with the TYP travel portal but to transfer the points to a travel partner when the travel partner are running any type of promotion on tickets on miles redemption. However, with Chase UR, they do have promotions when transferring miles to airline partners with bonus. Either one is hard to come by, but when they do, it get swoop up quickly. I have yet scored on any of the travel deals.
Thanks, OP! Redeemed for three Apple gift cards. I use the apple balance for app/music/iPhone purchases mostly. Other hardware like Macs and Apple watches can be found at discounted prices at other retailers like Amazon or BestBuy, but there are usually no discounts on latest unlocked iPhones.
Does anyone know if Chase also offers a 20% bonus sometimes? I see they are offering a 10% bonus at the moment.

At Apple, spending FREE TYP GC is a joy...
Completely agree. Used my last years TYP's gift cards to get a 1TB IPhone 15 pro for free. Great feeling!

No, it's not since Citi Costco card earns cash back, not Thank You points.
