Right, but the Denon deal is dead making this $750 receiver superior at this price.... while it lasts.

Also, if not going external amplification the 505 is still better.

505 current draw 850Watts
X3800 current draw 660Watts

The 505 is a pound heavier which makes for a better transformer.

At this price you should be comparing the denon x1800 or x2800....
Actually right now you can get the 3800 for $999 at AC4L refurb.

New the 3800 has dropped to $999 the last few months, good chance it will again.

As you can see just in here many people have argued that that extra pound has no sonic benefit.

That pound doesn't help with global crossovers, mono sub outs, not all channels are assignable, no pre amp mode and most importantly no DLBC!

Not to superior in those aspects imo,I would wait for the next 3800 sale.
Should be coming here soon! 🙏🏼

Like I said... for the third time.. for the price of $750 this is a better deal for most within this budget.

I don't need 4 subs, I use 80hz across all channels, don't care for assignable channels or "preamp mode" and I'm completely fine with no DLBC which I would have to spend $500 on 😭

I get it, your in a different price range and this deal does not apply to you but you sound like a Denon shill on a Pioneer 505 sale. I don't have to wait for Dirac implementation either. I'll save $750 and happily run my 505 😉

lol well if pointing out deficiencies of the 505 compared to the 3800 makes me a Denon "shill" so be it.

If it's a price range thing, I hate to tell you but you over paid!
The Onkyo 7100 would give you the same and was recently on sale for $529! Sorry 🤷🏻 ♂️
Nope, need preamp outs. Name a cheaper AVR with preamps plus Dirac for under $750?

Otherwise you're right, I would've bought the 7100.

"Also, if not going external amplification"
You over paid!

"Nope, need preamp outs"
The pound is irrelevant!

Hmmm I wonder if using preamp outs, shutting off those internal amps would be a benefit? 🤔

Someone keeps moving the goalpost, does that make you a Pioneer "shill"? 🤔

You were comparing x3800 vs 505, but you conveniently omitted some advantages of the 505 like the superior amplifier section. Is all.

I highly doubt turning off the amp section when running preouts will be noticeable but good on the Denon marketing team, sucker born.

So, which receiver again is less than $750 with Dirac Live and preouts?

I'll give you this, if the 505 and x3800 were both $1k, the denon would be my choice. But that's not the case here.

Yes because comparing it to a 7.2 without pre outs(1800/2800) is silly!

I have experience with both and in practical use the 15 watt difference was hardly a benefit.
Even cyberathlete and others were arguing power isn't a benefit.
Were you able to hear the 15 watts when you compared them?

There are a lot of pre pro fans that would disagree they are suckers!
The problem with the 505 not doing it, protection mode is dictated by those internal amp regardless.
That means that external amp is limited to that also!

The main reason people get this is Dirac Live.
If Dirac is so great what did DLBC not do for you to think it's not worth the $350 or dismiss it?

Apparently Pioneer and Onkyo felt most the benefits you are omitting the 3800 has were added to their new models.

If cyberathlete & his buddies are correct and power isn't a big benefit.

I would argue the 3800 + DL/DLBC for say $1850 is a heck of a value, no other receiver will come close.

If someone is an audiophile on a budget, go get the AVR-X3800H. The rest of us mere audio mortals are probably better off saving at least $250, and getting the VSX-LX505. I think the VSX-LX505 is the best bang for the buck receiver you can purchase right now. Great price, with enough expandability for most people's needs.

I bought this primarily for Dirac, Atmos, IMAX Enhanced Certification, HDR10+ support, DVision Support, 9.2 channels out of the box and a crossover of 80hz is fine by me on all speakers. The mono sub signal is also ok as the room is symmetrical and therefore not as big of an issue.

Sound quality is such a subjective topic. Everyone has their preference of sound but for movies I don't feel that you really need to worry about it so much so as you do for pure music listening.

For music I have other amps/pre-amps and dedicated setups this is for games and movies and at $750 shipped, near impossible to beat for the feature set you get and the number of channels it can do out of the box.
My issue with people spending more is for features that you may get, such as pre-outs, but never need or use. What's the point? I could buy the Marantz Cinema 50 if I wanted but at half the price I am getting the same features in the Pioneer and sacrificing nothing.

Hooked this up today. I have 4 rooms in the house with various setups and AVR's. I have an Onkyo NR-7100, and 2 NR-686's. This pioneer sounds best. I haven't even done Dirac yet, just their MCACC option. It sounds fantastic. YouTubetv and xfinity finally sound much better and not nearly as muffled. I don't need to raise the volume to 60 to hear announcers during basketball games clearly. Idk if it's because this has higher power output or what, but a noticeable difference. I'm not an audiophile by any means, just a guy who likes being able to hear what I'm listening to clearly. Music sounds great. HDMI 2.1 is working on my Xbox.

Running a rp-504c, rp-8000f ii, and various in ceiling speakers. 5.2.2 setup.

This is why I posted my response.
"I am getting the same features in the Pioneer and sacrificing nothing."

That is not correct, you even pointed out "features" you were fine not having!

You are sacrificing some key "features" and yes they may come at a price but that's for a person to determine whether it's worth it or not.
Even you pointed this out with your "pre-outs" comment!

I was informing everyone what "features" you are sacrificing with the 505.
For some people they may matter and good for them to know imo.

Especially when someone says get this this is awesome.
It might not be for some people because of the "features" you are sacrificing!
I made no such statement good or bad.
