for an apples to apples comparison:

Pioneer 505 - $749
Dirac full bandwidth is included - $0
Dirac microphone is included - $0
Total - $749

Denon 3800 - $1000
Dirac full bandwidth is $349
Dirac microphone is $100
Total - $1449

So the price difference is $700, not $500. Options almost double the Denon price when making an equal comparison.

Differences are power rating 120w for Pioneer vs 105w for Denon. Sometime in 2024 Denon will add a Dirac bass control module (Not available on the Pioneer but adds another $499 for multi sub version). Or you may choose another type of sub EQ if you desire and not use this module at all.

Bang for the buck, you will have a hard time finding better performance than this Pioneer for the same money.

Hooked this up today. I have 4 rooms in the house with various setups and AVR's. I have an Onkyo NR-7100, and 2 NR-686's. This pioneer sounds best. I haven't even done Dirac yet, just their MCACC option. It sounds fantastic. YouTubetv and xfinity finally sound much better and not nearly as muffled. I don't need to raise the volume to 60 to hear announcers during basketball games clearly. Idk if it's because this has higher power output or what, but a noticeable difference. I'm not an audiophile by any means, just a guy who likes being able to hear what I'm listening to clearly. Music sounds great. HDMI 2.1 is working on my Xbox.

Running a rp-504c, rp-8000f ii, and various in ceiling speakers. 5.2.2 setup.

Quick questions about this receiver.
I have a Sony STR-ZA5000ES 9.2 from 2018. Outside of HDMI 2.1 inputs, is this receiver an upgrade or just a side grade to my current Sony?
Current setup, 5.2.4.

thanks in advance.

More than that
Pioneer has 8k, 4k/120fps all HDMI ports (if you do gaming current high end PC setups and future consoles push this frame rate)
HDR10+ (some shows and movies are in HDR10+)
Dolby Vision (I didn't see it in the specs for this receiver when I was in the market for a Sony receiver)

DV is a big deal (to some) if you have an OLED or Mini LED that have it and your receiver can't push it through then time to upgrade.

Thanks for the input, but there is a reason why I said outside of HDMI 2.1.
Currently, I'm still using my old Sony 3D 75in Z9D from 2016 in my living room. It's the last 3D premium TV from Sony and still working flawlessly. It has all the best current spec, 1800nit HDR, 800+ local dimming zones, atmos vision, HDR10, etc., well minus HDMI2.1. It puts my bedroom sony 65 x950h 2021 to shame.

I had a Sony 940D (I know it's no Z9) for 3D and honestly the 3D on that TV had a lot of crosstalk and ghosting and not to mention the 3D I got on my 120" projector screen was a different experience. I feel that for 3D you gotta go 100" or bigger for immersion. I did not like the 3D on that 940D at all.

There are UST's now that can push 4000 lumen and have 3D as well but UST won't work for my theater room as I prefer traditional speakers as opposed to in wall and working with placement for both UST and center channel is a pain unless you want to spend $3k on furniture. If you don't care for audio as much or have in walls, a 3000+ lumen UST will give an unreal 3D experience due to the brightness.

The Z9 was the king of TVs back in the day but OLEDs now have trounced all those TVs when it comes to color reproduction, pop, contrast and vibrance. There is not a single area except for brightness where a Z9 can compete with modern day OLEDs. And Mini LED with 720+ zones are also replacing FALD TVs as the new upper end TVs. And Mini LEDs are pushing even greater nits that what Z9 could. I could be wrong but I'll check rtings and get back on this.

Just got this in and hooked up. Running same speakers and Basx a2 for l&r. You running into any issues with it randomly turning off? Have had it happen a few times at moderate listening levels. Turns right back on and no issues after.

Ran it pretty hard with music and movies the other night with no problems. Turned off this morning after 5 minutes at pretty moderate to low volume. Turned back on and no issues.
mine has worked perfectly you might try a factory reset before resorting to sending it back

Great price for a unit with pre-outs. For anyone who owns this:
1) Will Dirac set crossover frequency per speaker possibly overriding the strange decision for a global crossover?

2) How quickly does this unit decode the audio of any track? My old Yamaha TSR-7810 takes a second or two and I keep losing the beginning of songs, especially Atmos tracks.

After what happened to my bedroom Oled TV - LG 65 c6 3d curved, I'm going to stay away from Oled. I have never had a tv with so many burn-in issues after only 3 years.
Mini-LED is going to be my next living room TV, but I'm going to wait another few years, after the technology mature a bit.

I paid 899.99 almost 10 years ago on a pioneer elite. This is hell of a deal for anyone wanting a 9.2. If not...and if 7.2 works.. run and grab the Onkyo list on SD

More wattage (minor and if it makes difference ) plus option to go 11 channels down the road.
