Fyi for those who didn't know what this is.
Definitely seems like something that should be free if you have MyQ. Basically a glorified IFTTT applet.

Same. I had issues where it's time out when switching between WiFi/cellular. So biggest issue would be when leaving house.
I keep the garage door opener in the driver side door, and reach out and feel for button 1/2.
Also, separately, MyQ is buggy I have 75% reliability with their product and their app in triggering my doors. Sometimes it times out, sometimes it works. Extremely variable and no feedback within the app to tell what went wrong. I'm ditching the whole thing, and bought a Meross HomeKit enabled version.

Homelink has been an option in new 3/Ys for years now (rather than standard) because the Homelink people also charge a fee- in this case a fee on every vehicle built with homelink regardless of if you use it and use data showed a large % of 3/Y where it wasn't used so made more sense to make it optional. IIRC it's still standard in the S/X.
So if you DO prefer having it to the MyQ thing (which was pointed out charges subscription fees for MANY brands of cars, not just Tesla) you can get that instead- $350 and they come to your house to install it in the car.

Probably not since MyQ doesn't control those.
This monthly fee isn't from the car maker- it's from the garage door opener company (and as noted they charge it across many car brands)

I use to have a Model S which had homelink. If i had a Model Y/3 now, I would still rather pay the $350 one-time fee to have physical homelink that i know won't fail than to pay a subscription to get MyQ just out of principle and also to know it won't fail.
If you want companies to stop going towards the subscription model, do something about it, don't pay. Companies like BMW have already started to backtrack from that model after immense backlash.
