"With myQ smart technology, all Tesla Model 3, Model Y, and 2021+ Model S and Model X have the power to automatically open and close the garage whether you're coming home or heading out. "

Fyi for those who didn't know what this is.
Definitely seems like something that should be free if you have MyQ. Basically a glorified IFTTT applet.

Taping my garage door opener remote to the back of the screen is free. Also, tried a couple free trials, it works maybe 75% of the time. Def not worth any subscription fee.

Same. I had issues where it's time out when switching between WiFi/cellular. So biggest issue would be when leaving house.

I keep the garage door opener in the driver side door, and reach out and feel for button 1/2.

Also, separately, MyQ is buggy I have 75% reliability with their product and their app in triggering my doors. Sometimes it times out, sometimes it works. Extremely variable and no feedback within the app to tell what went wrong. I'm ditching the whole thing, and bought a Meross HomeKit enabled version.

Lol, Tesla people apparently love getting nickled and dimed to death. But hey, saving all that money on gas though, right?
Wow, who hurt you? MyQ has introduced subscription models to Tesla, Honda, Acura, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and Mitsubishi cars in recent years and they're working to get Ford and Toyota on board as well. This isn't a Tesla specific thing at all, but rather a MyQ charging for their service thing. Be an adult.

Went through both experimental free trials. which were spotty with opening/closing properly. But I will say in the last 3 months since buying the subscription it has had a really good success rate. Just one guys opinion FWIW. Its a hefty price to pay for not having to push a singular button when you get home or leave. But I've been happy with it lately.

They took Homelink out of new Teslas? My model S garage door control is integrated in the screen, automatically pops up when approaching and summon can open if desired. Also, I have free access on the phone via the myQ app as a backup.

Homelink has been an option in new 3/Ys for years now (rather than standard) because the Homelink people also charge a fee- in this case a fee on every vehicle built with homelink regardless of if you use it and use data showed a large % of 3/Y where it wasn't used so made more sense to make it optional. IIRC it's still standard in the S/X.

So if you DO prefer having it to the MyQ thing (which was pointed out charges subscription fees for MANY brands of cars, not just Tesla) you can get that instead- $350 and they come to your house to install it in the car.

Probably not since MyQ doesn't control those.

This monthly fee isn't from the car maker- it's from the garage door opener company (and as noted they charge it across many car brands)

But controlling garage door via MyQ app is still free, and now MyQ is available on Android Auto/Carplay (which tesla DOES NOT have).

I use to have a Model S which had homelink. If i had a Model Y/3 now, I would still rather pay the $350 one-time fee to have physical homelink that i know won't fail than to pay a subscription to get MyQ just out of principle and also to know it won't fail.

If you want companies to stop going towards the subscription model, do something about it, don't pay. Companies like BMW have already started to backtrack from that model after immense backlash.
