Regarding your bad luck with the demo mode, it seems you are not the only one. See the following video:

In his case, he bought it directly from Apple so easier for Apple to send replacement. In my case, I have Woot as middleman so options are sort of different because I won't be able to exchange it woot.

Thank you!

I was able to do it on the second call. checkcoverage.apple.com confirms purchased 11/28/23.

Both times the first CSR had to escalate to a specialist.
On the second call, the first CSR mentioned that my device was originally registered on April 19, 2023. She mentioned that she couldn't change the date herself, and it seemed it may have been because it was over 180 days.

I got the space gray MBP with 512 gb. I'm guessing that perhaps the authorization level required and apprehension about updating might increase after the 180-day threshold, which I can understand. Aside from some CSR's being more accommodating than others, this may explain why some people had an easier time updating.

I tried three times without much luck. Did they ask for the proof stating certified refurbished?

For warranty, I login in mysupport.apple.com, choose the laptop. Apple let me input the purchase date, then agent called me. I uploaded the screenshot of woot order, and edited the Serial number on this screenshot. Agent told me everything is in progressing now. I will receive a confirmation email.
I did that and they said that they couldn't confirm woot was an authorized reseller and I'd have to contact woot then I uploaded a picture of the box that said certified apple refurbished and they did it and I didn't have to contact woot

So, pretty much the same process, but I took a screen shot of the purchase in the Woot app on my phone which did show "Condition: Factory Reconditioned" on it. Before clicking on the button to have Apple call me, I attached it to the case first, and then clicked on the button to have them call me. Took about 3 minutes on hold and then was complete no questions asked.

Must really be luck of the draw for what rep you get….

Mine came in a box that says Apple Certified Refurbished but when I entered the serial number at Apple to try to purchase AppleCare it said it's not eligible...

Thanks. Was able to update the purchase date to November. But oddly, the warranty expires in April 24. :/

But aren't expiration calculated from the purchase date? Shouldn't it be 1 year after the purchase date?

They get corrected

I'm saying, every refurb from micro center and Amazon everyone's had an April exp date of 24

Mine was April 14 gf too and many others.

I think that's the date / month they was actually refurbished/activated

You contact Apple to get updated date, both my receipts sent to Apple 5 mins on phone dates was made Nov 2024

It's just my assumption they refyrbished a massive batch of refurbs for Black Friday sales in April due to everyone having same exp date

So an update on the demo issue. Apple was unable to remove it since the serial number is registered on the remote management site. Have to return the device to woot now since it's my only option.

It stinks. But on the flip side, deals on electronics can only get better, if you can wait Smilie

Yes. Weird thing happened though. I was playing around with the laptop while in demo mode. It restarted all of a sudden with "demo update in progress" and now I am able to set up the computer. Not sure if it will go back in demo mode or not.
