I watched a Mathias wandel YouTube test video on infrared heaters. The style with the metal cover like in the first two pics, weren't the best as they lost a lot of heat to the cover. The open one type in the 3rd pic did well in the tests

Does this 1500 watt model put out more heat than the $25 Walmart bathroom special heater that's also 1,500 watt if two heaters one heater is $100 the others $25 and they both put out 1500 watts which one is more efficient

Mathias is great but this heater isn't the same as what he tested. The grill and and casing of this heater is plastic and thanks to the fan blowing the hot air away from the heater the grill stays only warm to the touch. I have both the same metal-grilled heater he tested and 4 of these Heat Storms and the latter are much more efficient at heating a space.

I wonder if this would be ok for a basement, although I'm guessing it doesn't have a low temp range. I want to get something you can set to 35 F to keep pipes from freezing.
Bought 1000 watt wifi for kids room a few months ago to prepare for winter and it works great so far! Just bought the 1500 watt a week ago for the basement to run at night so the whole boiler isn't used (basement level is noisy when on). Haven't tested yet for the space but I think it should do!

For anyone with the non-wifi version of the infrared heater, are the controls remembered if the heater is turned off?

I'm trying to determine if a smart plug will suffice and allow simple on/off control with the temp settings already set.
Yes they are, I have the 1200w version with stands plugged into a smart plug I got for $23 with an echo dot. I set an alexa routine to turn on every night in my bedroom at night and turn off in the am.

Edit: though I recomend the wifi because it would be more intuitive and the device has a thermometer so you can turn on/off based on the temp

Dreo's wall-mounted unit (similar smart features and remote, oscillator, better reviews) is on sale for $110. The $125 version has a hairdryer-style plug suitable for bathrooms. I've had very good experiences with Dreo products, it was worth the extra $20 to me.
Does the Dreo one have a standing feet option?

It'll hold itself up, but no, I don't think there's a stand for it.

Anyone know the rationale behind not having feet for the wifi model? I presume safety precaution?

Iirc, normally it's not recommended to use a smart switch on an infrared heater because the fan usually has to run for a minute or so after shutting down to cool down the coils

Will it warm up an unheated 2 car garage to bareable temps? From 46 to around 60?

How loud are these?
that's why I'm shopping for oil-filled silent heaters. I have old Pelonis in the bedroom since furnace is too loud.

Does the product specify whether it's safe for the bathroom? I'm interested in adding some extra heat for the bathroom while taking baths.
I have it in my bathroom (and have had it for 2 years) and no issues at all. I turn it on from my bed via the app in the morning and the bathroom is all warm and toasty for me brushing my teeth and showering. Literally do it, the best thing ever

I have one of these in my unheated garage where the kids play. I'm not sure about 40 degrees but it got it up from 52 to 69 in 20 mins. The garage is a one car garage, insulated on the sides but no other heating/cooling

Which one would that be? None of them say "comfort zone".

Hooo boy don't make the mistake I did. This thing pulls a lot of electricity. I melted a smart plug/outlet doing exactly this. They are NOT RATED for devices that pull this kind of juice. It is (clearly) a huge fire hazard. Don't be a moron like me!

Just reiterating it clearly - a 1500W heater is a 1500W heater, whether it's $20 at Walmart unit or $100, $200, etc. I prefer the cheap ones for cost and simplicity. They won't break unless you smash it, as there's really nothing to break. It doesn't make sense to complicate something as simple as a resistance heater. If I need remote control on the cheap ones, I use one of the tp-link wifi switches we all have 20 of from previous deals lol

The 15A plugs obviously...

I installed two of these in the upstairs rooms of our 200 year old new England house. Those rooms have no direct heat (typical), getting what they do get via convection up the stairs. There is also no easy way to tie into the existing heat downstairs.

While we're renovating (and not yet moved in) I keep the house cold overnight at 55℉. The back upstairs room gets down to 48 or so. When I fire up the Phoenix (remotely of course via its WiFi connection), it warms the room to 60 in pretty short order. We're quite pleased.

Since we're renovating, I did add in dedicated receptacles for a cleaner install.

Here's one. The wall was just stripped of wallpaper and hasn't been repainted yet, so pardon the rough appearance.
