I guess it's relative, but the amount of time and effort to do this sounds way too much. Hauling the washer back, disassembling, and then you have the headache of needing to dispose of all the leftover material. Throw in some money for metal stands/legs (because not all of us have these just laying around), how much are you actually saving once you consider everything? Also aesthetically, I'm sure the Solo Stove looks better than what 90% of people will build.

It's really not that big a deal. I bought one at this price last summer when it went on sale, I can get through 4- 5 fires without having to clean out as the wood burns to fine ash which one person can pickup and dump out. I finish up with a shop vac and it's a piece of cake.

I'd pull the trigger if you're thinking about it, heck it's Costco return it if you don't like it after you buy.

Get a handle and carry it to a place, such as a garden, a field, or a lawn, and flip it upside down. Done. I usually collect the ash as fertilizer. As long as you don't burn plastics, it's safe to use

Ordered this this morning. We have been on the fence and have been looking on the marketplace for one. Looking forward to our first fire!

Can someone advise me on how to get rid of the backyard leaves a fun way? I was thinking of this but too expensive for what I would like to do. I don't even know if this (a bigger version) would be good for leaves though. Any ideas? Thanks.

I have friends with both the Bonfire and the Yukon and I prefer the Bonfire. The Yukon really is quite large but as a gift I know the preference is for the Yukon. I placed the order and know this can be returned if necessary so nothing to lose.
Can you send link to the Bonfire?

If It rains where you are, don't. Because if there is ash in it, that can make a mess of things and cleaning is a nightmare. Just get the cover or a waterproof cover.

If this had been available last year, I'd have purchased this instead of my Bonfire.

With that said, I'm not sure I'd make that trade now. I really like my Bonfire and I've hauled it around the yard/next door a few times. The Bonfire seems small at times, but in all honesty, it's grown on me as being the ideal size.

Also keep in mind that to be "smokeless" it has to be hot enough to burn off the excess smoke. To keep a Yukon hot enough to be smokeless, you're going to burn more wood. The Bonfire burns wood a lot faster than you think, so I'm guessing a Yukon would burn even more.

Regardless, I'd buy this if I didn't already have a bonfire.

Dad joke edit: "why is this not listed as a 'hot deal' yet?"

I bought this deal this spring and I love it. I've kind of gone overboard now and bought the lid, a cover, the accessory set, and a few weeks ago the heat deflector. I never got much use out of other fire pits due to the smoke, but with this my wife and I sit outside in our adirondacks and enjoy the fire. No regrets with this purchase.

A note on wood consumption, I usually start the fire with a couple fire starters, a handful of twigs, and 4-5 pieces of oak wood. That's usually good enough for a couple hours of burn, and I'll throw another one or two on if we're still sitting out there. I'm ok with that burn rate.

I bought a few for Christmas as well. I grabbed this handle so my sons can carry to the garden and empty it (like someone else suggested). I also bought a soft bristle brush so they can get all the ash off the stainless without scratching it. You need to keep the holes open so the fire can pull in oxygen . Great you-tube videos on cleaning it. Here's the link to the handle. Solo sells them also but a little more expensive

That handle looks great! Yes, trying to pick this up by yourself and dump it elsewhere is awkward, to say the least. I will put that handle on my wish list. Thanks!

Can you use this on a deck - wood or composite? Assuming they sell a stand or a platform you have to put this on?

This thing is not that heavy, if you're a man or your man can't pick this up and turn it over, eat more meat and workout. I'm in my 40s and not in great shape, but this is not hard at all to empty.

It took you more time to type this then to read the listing correctly. Comes with a stand...

Soooo.

These things are overrated. Here's how to save yourself $250.

1. Go on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist or landfill and find a free/broken Washing Machine (the kind for clothes). Chances are it will have a solid stainless steel drum inside.

2. Remove the stainless steel drum from the washing machine, detach any plastic from it.

3. Buy some metal legs/stand to set it in. I use a cast iron stand laying around from a giant garden pot that broke. Also got for free on marketplace.

4. Fill with firewood and light.

(OPTIONAL) Buy ~$25 of aluminum fencing to make a small safety barrier to keep people from touching it.

BOOM. Now you have yourself a bonfire that works BETTER than a solo stove because the mesh of the drum provides even more airflow. And it looks almost exactly the same as a solo stove
"Overrated" because you have no concept of gasification which is why smokeless fire pits are popular on the market. The mere suggestion that a diy washer tub is just as effective at producing a smokeless experience as the double walled vented fire pits is absurd. Lastly, let's be real, you may not value your time as much as some of us who aren't going to go out of our way to go shopping at a landfill.
