5000 IU is more than most people should be taking in a day. Talk to your doctors folks. Mine recommended 1-2k.

I monitor my blood levels, at 3000 iu I vary around above normal for Vitamin D. Depends on how much sun i get in the summer (and I get a lot, I cycle).

So winter, I can probably do daily 5000iu.

Also people, don't forget Vitamin D3 alone will not boost your immune system. Without Magnesium Citrate it won't absorb so you probably need to supplement that too. If you drink a daily Electrolyte mix you might get enough. I know Redmond Life Re-Lyte mix has quite a bit in it so if you drink that a couple times a day you should be good and not have to supplement.
Lol don't overdo the magnesium otherwise you'll be spending some dedicated time in the bathroom.

Monk fruit extract contains the kind of fake sugar that was recently found to increase the risk of strokes & heart attacks. What cost superstition.
You're confusing monk fruit extract with monk fruit sweetener that contain erythritol. The study was on erythritol.

Add to that the amount of D3 in other vitamins you take (if any). For example:
Centrum Silver has 1000 IU
Calcium Citrate Magnesium has 800 IU
For a total of 6800 IU per day.

5000iu a day is totally fine. Optimal in fact. No need to take D daily. It stores in fat for months. You can take a big dose once every week or two for the exact same results.

Your doctor is wrong. As a general rule, doctors know almost nothing about supplements or hormones. They spend something like 85% of their time in med school learning about drugs and only drugs. Not about health, wellness, nutrition, etcetera.

I'm not here to say who's right and wrong. The proper way to go about it is to get blood tested, see where you're at and then supplement. I was supplementing 1000 IU a day, and I get alot of sun in the summer, and was still deficient. I bumped to 2000, still mildly deficient. 5000 put me at almost too high, so went down to 2x2000 a day and I'm at good levels now.

Like I said in my previous post, in the winter 5000 iu is likely fine given spending less time in the sun.

However, Vitamin D3 poisoning is a thing, granted it will take sometime to happen. Regardless. Get blood tested, see what you need. Blood tests are cheap, better to know than to just take an amount and guess. Especially from an argument on the internet.
Blood tests are largely bogus for many things.

They are generally based on the average of the human population aged approximately 15-85. (A generally overweight, sedentary, unhealthy and microplastic filled population I might add.). Also, blood tests generally do not account for age or sex, which is a HUGE shortcoming.

There is frequently a very large gap between "average" and "optimal".

You cannot and will not have issues taking 5000iu of D per day.

Do people not realize how much vitamin D you get from standing outside in the sun for a little while?

5,000iu is perfectly fine for most people to take daily. It's sad how little our local primary care doctors actually know. Most of their learning consists of selling drugs/what to prescribe for certain ailments. Most of which can be remedied by healthy eating and regular exercise, but it's hard to make money with that advice.

Yes, but there's not much sun for the coming months for a large portion of the population.

I understand. What I'm saying is that 30 minutes in the sun gives you way more than 5000 IUs.
