Also people, don't forget Vitamin D3 alone will not boost your immune system. Without Magnesium Citrate it won't absorb so you probably need to supplement that too. If you drink a daily Electrolyte mix you might get enough. I know Redmond Life Re-Lyte mix has quite a bit in it so if you drink that a couple times a day you should be good and not have to supplement.

5000iu a day is totally fine. Optimal in fact. No need to take D daily. It stores in fat for months. You can take a big dose once every week or two for the exact same results.
Your doctor is wrong. As a general rule, doctors know almost nothing about supplements or hormones. They spend something like 85% of their time in med school learning about drugs and only drugs. Not about health, wellness, nutrition, etcetera.

Like I said in my previous post, in the winter 5000 iu is likely fine given spending less time in the sun.
However, Vitamin D3 poisoning is a thing, granted it will take sometime to happen. Regardless. Get blood tested, see what you need. Blood tests are cheap, better to know than to just take an amount and guess. Especially from an argument on the internet.
Blood tests are largely bogus for many things.
They are generally based on the average of the human population aged approximately 15-85. (A generally overweight, sedentary, unhealthy and microplastic filled population I might add.). Also, blood tests generally do not account for age or sex, which is a HUGE shortcoming.
There is frequently a very large gap between "average" and "optimal".
You cannot and will not have issues taking 5000iu of D per day.
