Only one full HDMI 2.1 input for 4K120. Could be a problem if you're connecting more than one current gen gaming console or PC. Rest of the ports can handle 4K60 sources.

The great price on a great AVR is back!

If you can live with one 2.1 and add MultEQ-X makes a great update imo.

Lowest or wait for 6800H (rumor says it comes out next month)?

6800H will be more than twice as much as this. If you don't need multiple 2.1 inputs or dirac live then this would be sufficient for most. Personally, I'm waiting for 6800H even though it cost more than twice as much as this currently.

Yeah that won't be enough future proofing for me, otherwise seems like a good deal.

Said to be early this coming year, so may not be January specifically.

MSRP is $3499 and some sellers are already taking pre orders.

It's reported that all 7 HDMI inputs & 2 of 3 outs support 2.1.

Sorry if I SOUND naive, but in this age of tech, why are these so exorbitantly pricey? Just curious 🧐

They do use high quality parts but the bigger reason is this has become a niche product. With smart tvs and soundbar that connect themselves most use cases do not need these. Enthusiast still prefer them and that is a high margin market.

Between this and the $1399 deals on the 4800, the 6700 would be better if you know you're not going to be adding external amps, and you also have no interest in Dirac.

If you have, or plan on adding, external amps the 4800 becomes the better deal IMO because of the ability to turn off any of the internal amps through the menu system.

The 4800 also has HDMI 2.1 and Dirac, which may be important to some people.

What gets me is how rare processors are. Since you could invest in a good amp(s) that would last 30 years and it would be nice to pare them with a disposable $500 processor. Anthem and Outlaw are a couple names but if the mainstream cheap brands would stoop to it…

The existing processors are soooo expensive. Makes sense for a lot of people to use an all in one AVR just from cost to observable performance perspective. They are more than good enough for most people.

You can also use these AVRs as processor preamp provided they have pre outs. It's a lot cheaper than buying a dedicated processor/preamp.

The thing I don't understand is why it is necessary for AVR's to do video processing at all in this day and age. Most people use streaming devices such as AppleTV's, Fire Sticks, Roku's, Google TV's (which can be connected directly to their TV's) or their TV's built-in apps to watch TV and movies. Couldn't Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer etc. make more affordable versions of these receivers that don't handle video processing at all, with just an eArc port that allows the receiver to receive audio coming back to the TV?
