Only one full HDMI 2.1 input for 4K120. Could be a problem if you're connecting more than one current gen gaming console or PC. Rest of the ports can handle 4K60 sources.

The thing I don't understand is why it is necessary for AVR's to do video processing at all in this day and age. Most people use streaming devices such as AppleTV's, Fire Sticks, Roku's, Google TV's (which can be connected directly to their TV's) or their TV's built-in apps to watch TV and movies. Couldn't Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer etc. make more affordable versions of these receivers that don't handle video processing at all, with just an eArc port that allows the receiver to receive audio coming back to the TV?
I feel it's Moar = better mentality and inertia of how things have been done traditionally. It may be good for people with multiple old devices like vintage gaming systems, VCRs (don't laugh but I wish I kept my VCR), etc but I think there are a few with those needs.

Looks like it is no longer available. Kind of glad. I would think about it all day otherwise.

Between this and the $1399 deals on the 4800, the 6700 would be better if you know you're not going to be adding external amps, and you also have no interest in Dirac.

If you have, or plan on adding, external amps the 4800 becomes the better deal IMO because of the ability to turn off any of the internal amps through the menu system.

The 4800 also has HDMI 2.1 and Dirac, which may be important to some people.
Which one has a cleaner DAC for connecting to an external stereo amp for music coming in from an HDMI input?

The existing processors are soooo expensive. Makes sense for a lot of people to use an all in one AVR just from cost to observable performance perspective. They are more than good enough for most people.

You can also use these AVRs as processor preamp provided they have pre outs. It's a lot cheaper than buying a dedicated processor/preamp.
Yes some of processors big draws was better RC, Dirac being one and separate amps.

Now that Dirac went mainstream and now being able disengage internal amps.

Even more now separates do not make much cost to performance sense for most.

If you could get a processor that offers both DL & DLBC or the like, they may get more interest.

This the 4800 and even the 3800 share the same DAC so you are safe whichever you pick with that.

You lose the option for both Dirac RC's and you only get one 2.1 hdmi.

If you are ok with that, then it might be a better option.

I think the benefit to switching video through the AVR is so your TV only needs 2 cables (hdmi + power) run through the wall.

I got a Denon X1700h this season swapping brands from the last 3 Yamaha's I've owned. It's been a much more compatible unit - once you spend A LOT of time learning to configure it with the app/remote/audassy/etc. It's basically a computer.

One word of caution - it doesn't pass any resolutions except 1080/4k/8k. I was really hoping to do some 2k pc gaming but it won't pass it.

Oh the 4800 gives both Dirac RC options and additional 2.1? Definitely prob with it for the upgrade.

Yes it's listed on spec sheet as:
"8K video is supported on all seven HDMI inputs and two of the three outputs"

Yes Dirac Live is available now, Dirac Live Bass Control will be offered this coming year sometime.
Hopefully it's released at the same time as the 6800.

What gets me is how rare processors are. Since you could invest in a good amp(s) that would last 30 years and it would be nice to pare them with a disposable $500 processor. Anthem and Outlaw are a couple names but if the mainstream cheap brands would stoop to it…
can you send link to those good amps that would last for many many years as you said?

what's difference between AVR e.g. 3800H, 6800H etc and a processor/preamp? Do you have example to show one of the preamps?

Dang. This was an awesome deal. A Denon ad popped up in my IG feed - they have this model for $2,000.

AVR-X6700H - 11.2 Ch. 140W 8K AV Receiver with HEOS® Built-in | Denon - US [denon.com]

I was thinking about it. Right now I run 5.2.4. I have 7 channel Denon and an external amp to power two more speakers. Was seriously thinking about this to add 2 more speakers and have this Denon run all 11 channels. But 2k that I don't really need to spend...
