If you have, or plan on adding, external amps the 4800 becomes the better deal IMO because of the ability to turn off any of the internal amps through the menu system.
The 4800 also has HDMI 2.1 and Dirac, which may be important to some people.
The existing processors are soooo expensive. Makes sense for a lot of people to use an all in one AVR just from cost to observable performance perspective. They are more than good enough for most people.
You can also use these AVRs as processor preamp provided they have pre outs. It's a lot cheaper than buying a dedicated processor/preamp.
