Ultimately, the difference between the PS4 version and the God of War Ragnarok PS5 upgrade are the options for graphical performance. As detailed in our God of War Ragnarok performance guide, the PS5 version of the game offers a much larger variety of graphics options affecting resolution and FPS; these most notably include the Favours Quality Mode with 4K resolution and 30FPS, and the Favours Performance mode with 1440-2160p resolution whilst targetting 60FPS.
By comparison, the PS4 PRO version only has two modes favouring performance or quality - targetting 30FPS or 1440-1656p respectively. On the standard PS4, God of War Ragnarok only comes with one mode, targeting 1080p resolution and 30FPS.
In addition to far more graphical performance options, the God of War Ragnarok PS5 upgrade will provide PlayStation 5-exclusive features: far faster loading times thanks to the current-gen system's SSD, and haptic feedback via the DualSense controller for a more immersive experience when exploring the game's world - such as when you're recalling the Leviathan Axe, or travelling via your dog-pulled sled in a snowy Midgard.
This is the first game that I can say uses the full graphics processing power of the PS5 and doesn't feel at all like you are playing some kind of emulator. Generational game. Can't wait for the FREE DLC (Dec 12th)! Thievery at this price!
