Rural America - farmers/"have to do it yourself" worked on cars, tractors, etc in the shade of a tree. "Shade Tree Mechanic". If you travel American backroads, you'll find the vehicles that didn't get fixed quickly enough - they now have a tree growing out of them :-D

Sad how fast this history gets lost.

You'd be better better off with any of the brushless "mid torques" - will be half the size/weight and have the same or more power. Or the HF Bauer brushless for $129(can probably find a coupon or catch a sale for less) has almost double the power as this brushed Milwaukee. This is old outdated tech as far as the impact is concerned.

Nice deal that would benefit many shade tree mechanics. If I didn't already have the fuel high torque from another deal and the ratchet already I'd be all over this.

450 lb ft from the brushed impact is still decent and more than enough usually.

Tempting. I don't have any other m18 tools but have been eyeing that ratchet to add to my M12 setup. I do my own car work so both are very tempting. I also recently got a larger air compressor in my garage for the first time and can do air tools now tho. Battery would be even better but not sure I can justify it

They seriously still make a brushed high torque? I feel they could just offer older gen brushless for this price instead of this museum piece.

Shade tree?
Old expression of someone who fixes their car wherever it's parked rather than a shop with a lift.

Shade tree...
It means amateur. A mechanic working under a shade tree. As in the back yard
