Your kid is still going to hit "record" regardless of how much storage you have. Strange problem with an easy solution.
Picked one up last time. For my needs, 64GB is plenty and don't see the value in paying more for Pro features. Most folks would probably be in a similar boat.
Though it can a bit jarring sometimes to go from my 120Hz ProMotion iPhone to the 60Hz iPad Air, it's still plenty bright and clear for browsing and media consumption.
The M1 chip is absolutely underutilized. For that reason, new iPad Air with upgraded processor is less appealing. Personally, I see it as future proofing for upcoming iPadOS releases when the device will invariably slow down with new software.
I got the iPad Pro with 128gb for $550 with no sales tax. Makes this gimped model with half the storage overpriced at $535 after tax.
The base model would need to come down to $400 + tax to be a slick deal.
