I have 2 of these subs. I also play my music at high volume. I have had zero issues with these. They are heavy and large. But I also bought 2 of the Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-1400SW 14" 1000W High Excursion Subwoofer that was on here last week and I will say they beat out my old subs so I am planning on moving the 14" subs into the house and the 15" subs into my shop

Please people just stay away from this sub and buy the rp1400 on sale for about the same $$$ if you want to go with a klipsch sub. Your getting a huge improved amp, much better driver and the proper 5 year warranty and far less issues.

$599 on Amazon but with their card and 5% back it's cheaper than using some cards on adorama. (I compared to Apple Pay 2% back option if I bought from adorama. 5% back on an Amazon card is cheaper even though the price is 20 bucks higher). In for one. My Cerwin Vega XLS-15S just went out dang it.

I have 2 of these and never had any issues. But the new 14" is better.

This is the simplest and best answer.

I have 3 of these. They've all failed. Two purchased new both died within 9 months. Klipsch sent free replacement amps, but I just don't think it's worth the headache and uncertainty. The new RP line has already seen some good discounts and I'm sure we'll see more offers in the future.
Hi. Can I ask what happened when yours failed? No power whatsoever? There was power, but no sound? Intermittent problem with sound? etc? TIA

The front power LED would still light up, but the sub had zero movement when given any input signal.

Sorry one more question. The replacement they sent, was it exactly the same as the original amp (meaning they would fail again at some point later) or was it an improved amp with had the fix for the original problem?

If it's the same issue, there's a YT video of a guy fixing one. As I recall it's an undersized resistor (like 1 watt when it should be 3 or 5) and when it fails it causes a domino effect that causes other components to fail.

Before the SPL-150 was the R-115SW. Very similar subs overall. They had stated that the SPL-150 had addressed the thermal issues the amps were having. That wasn't necessarily the case. Maybe the failure rate dropped somewhat with the changes they made, but it was still significant enough that they've been giving out free amps for years because of the poor engineering.

All replacement amps for the R-115SW and the SPL-150 have "SPL-150" stamped on them. In their defense, my replacement amps haven't failed in the two years I've had them, but it's always in the back of my mind.

The RP-1400SW at $699 last week was likely worth the extra coin over this deal, in my opinion and based off initial reviews.

I have kept all my previous amps just in case I have to dive into this at a later time. Hopefully I can replace my SPL's with the Rythmik subs I want before another failure occurs.

You can also just get a plate amp from partexpress and screw it on to box. You can use a piece of wood if the hole and amp don't line up exactly

That might be perfectly fine with someone who understands the history of these subs. My issue is reselling later. The regular guy down the street with no audio experience isn't necessarily going to like the fact that someone attached a generic amp and a piece of wood to the back of a lovely looking sub.

If someone were to go that route, however, I'd probably advise them to seal off the back and install a Speakon connector. Use an external amp of their choice.
