I would love someone's expert opinion comparing the two screens between this one and the OLED model I posted for $494 that has been cheaper in the past

Would definitely pick that one despite having a weaker processor. Overall, the one you posted is better laptop.
The display on this is 250-nits 45% NTSC and I think this also has a non-backlit keyboard. However, it does have thunderbolt 4. The cons are more or less acceptable at the given price, but I'd still choose the OLED one.

The use case with this is one with multiple monitors with the thunderbolt 4 and used as a desktop vs being portable. No lit keyboard or Touchscreen unfortunately Frown

Dr any experience/opinions with the cpu on this machine?

Bought this budget laptop a couple weeks ago. Yeah it sucked it didn't have backlit keyboard, but that wasn't a deal breaker for me. Overall i think it's a nice laptop for the price. However, I'm returning it because of the 250-nit? screen. I splurged a little more and bought the Asus Zenbook 14x / HP Pavilion Plus, now gotta decide which one to keep

I think this is one of the lower prices I've seen with Thunderbolt 4 for a new laptop, which becomes the main temptation if planning on using an egpu enclosure.

HP Pavilion Plus https://slickdeals.net/f/17155522-costco-members-hp-pavilion-plus-14-oled-laptop-ryzen-7-7840u-16gb-ram-1tb-ssd-600-15-s-h?src=SiteSearchV2_thread_detail_headerAlgo

Asus Zenbook 14x https://slickdeals.net/f/17143795-asus-zenbook-14x-14-5-2-8k-oled-120hz-touch-i7-13700h-16gb-lpddr5-512gb-ssd-699-99

both are expired, but the Zenbook 14x seems to go on sale frequently.

Thus far some of the critical (positive) features haven't been captured. However, let's reiterate the netagives:
  • Very basic non-touch screen
  • Typically low build quality as expected from an Acer commodity platform
However, for the price (as is typical for Acer) you're getting a LOT otherwise for the money.
  • CPU:
The beefy H-series CPU won't disappoint (though surely the Acer laptop will limit its top-end performance; cooling in such an inexpensive laptop shouldn't be expected to perform miracles).
  • RAM:
If I'm reading documentation for the Acer 515-57 series correctly, this platform has upgradeable RAM using two (2) SO-DIMM slots. Upgradeable RAM is becoming increasingly rare at budget price points.
  • Storage:
Again, assuming I'm reading the documentation correctly this has two (2) M.2 slots for storage: one supporting up to the PCIe 4.0 standard and one supporting up to the PCIe 3.0 standard.
This could make this a powerhouse value for the right buyer. Add to that, Acer's support isn't nonexistent. Typically these kind of buys were what you grab at the local Micro Center, so nice to have such an option easily available nationwide via Costco. Of course, if you're looking for a laptop expected to live a long life beyond the warranty, there might be better choices than a commodity Acer. This isn't really the kind of laptop you brag about unless you can leverage the expandability, care about the performance you're getting, can accept the limitations of the packaging, and have a strong focus on value for the price.

Good luck!
Jon
