We run ours year round and they last about 2 years. None have been this brand, but they all seem to be the same thing, just rebranded.

Our current one won't die just yet, it's a fighter, but it's starting to make noise, will make ice regardless of water level (it makes tiny contact lens size ice if low), and the lid falls off lol.

Even though it works, this is a good enough price to keep it as a backup until the other one finally stops working.

Our fridge has the ability to make ice, but we prefer these ice machines because we can easily use water that's gone through our Berkey filter first. ✌️

Would this be for an RV, or is it pretty big?
Small footprint, I use it in the RV.

I bought this for pickup last week and they were out of stock. Luckily, I had allowed substitutions and ended up with the better/latest model

Didn't know these existed, but I am assuming these ice makers use an excessive amount of electricity, like an air conditioner?

I am trying to weigh whether it's actually better cost savings for me, who only needs to purchase a bag of ice 1x/month to chill food for trips.

TIA!

I've had one of these for a year or so. Got it out of necessity because the building I work in doesn't have running water (plenty of bottled water delivered), but we do have a fridge and freezer. So I would make ice about once a week running the thing all day. It works great for that. But since this thing doesn't actually make ice as cold as your freezer or keep it frozen, just know that it makes very "wet" ice. So even dumping it every 30 minutes or so, once you get the ice in the freezer it WILL freeze together. So keep an ice pick of some sort on hand.

These use roughly 100watt to run which is a lot less than even a small AC windows unit. If your just buying a bag a month I wouldn't even bother. Unless ice is ridiculously expensive where you're at. By the time you have to manage water levels throughout the day, constant dumping ice every hour or so just to make a single large bag of ice. Doesn't seem worth it to save a couple bucks.

Oh wtf I just wanted a little ice maker that I could just leave sitting on the counter. does this exist?

If I have to take the ice out in a few hours and put it in the freezer I'd just stick with my cheapo plastic ice cube trays so I don't have to do multiple steps for ice lol

After seeing your comment I ended up getting one of these ice tray/bin combos instead - https://a.co/d/0PVwpl6

I think you are missing the point of these cool units. What if you have extra folks at your house and the icemaker can't keep up? What if you would like to have the ability to make ice on the porch or patio where you are hanging out? It's a really cool little item to have.

You should look into a reverse osmosis water filtration system. It goes under the sink and can be hooked up to your fridge.

I'd love that. Reverse Osmosis systems are the absolute best. Just not very handy and those setups can be very pricey. The Berkey has been great for us.

my fridge has dual ice makers, but it's a notorious samsung, and I gave up the ice making feature. I have one of these ICE only makers, and I'm so much happier. The repair of the samsung requires a house call, which is 80 bucks in itself, and it's going to fail again. Instead, I make it in this thang and dump it in the freezer. It clumps, but a butter knife takes care of it when needed. So much happier having ice when I want it, and this thing can go the whole day when the kids are off from school, they ravage the ice tray.......

it is a well known issue with samsung and LG fridges

Bought this yesterday and Walmart had it delivered by the time I got home. Works well, just like all the other ice makers like this (bullet style). My only gripe is that it needs a handy place to put the scoop.

I install one of those 3m hooks on the side of the machine and drill a little hole on the handle of the scoop. We hook our scoop that way.
