Mazda is having a hard time moving inventory. I bought a new CX-5 Signature at the peak of the pandemic shortages with 0.9% financing and $1000 below MSRP.

I absolutely love the car. As absurd and silly as this sounds, it's far more Cayenne than RAV-4. My only complaint is that gas mileage is mediocre to poor.

One thing i've learned in life is, once you make a large purchase, like a house or car, etc. Just stop looking and researching, you'll only be disappointed

how can you stand the 187 hp?

"IF" you have a house and can charge at home: Tesla Model 3 standard is $35k - $7500 FED incentive - states incentives. Much much better deal. You wake up fully charged and interior climate is warm/cool to your liking before you enter the car and much more.

Should go test drive a Tesla and decide.
Yeah but alot of people don't like the idea of having to charge your car instead of just quickly filling with gas. It's like 10hours on a wall charger or 2minutes on a gas pump. I know supercharger only take a hour but are pretty rough for the batteries and shortens their life. If electrics could charge in the same time it takes to fill a gas tank there'd be no cons.

Mileage is my main issue with Mazda. They never really got their hybrid game going, and I have a feeling they're dealing with a rude awakening, posing as this sub-Luxury brand now.

I'm spoiled getting 38 mpg from my UX250h. It's definitely smaller than the CX-5, but reliability, quality, and $30 a tank had me sold.

Who told you it takes 10 hours to charge at home?

We have Model Y and Model 3; scheduled to start charging after 10:00 PM @10 cents per kilowatt-hour, nema 14-50 plugs. Wake up fully charged every day. We haven't been to the gas stations in years and save a lot of time and money.

The instant acceleration fun and convenience of driving a Tesla can't be beat.

Did you mistake with Toyota or GM?
Reading too much FUD media is bad :-)

Tesla has made big improvement since 2021.
Have you ever seen any car that gets better AFTER purchased? Tesla sends out OTA software updates frequently and adds more features to their car, just like iPhone/iPad.

You should check out their latest. I guarantee you'll buy one after a test drive.

Some will say "I pay cash for my cars". I'd venture to say you have opportunity loss on your money then. You could easily put that money into a CD and warn over 5%.

So now we have established we need to save at least $5,000 just to break even.
You make valid points, if you pay cash for a new car with 0% interest. If you are buying used with cash then it's different. I'm looking at a used for 27,000 OTD vs equivalent new for 34,500 OTD. That's 7,500 I have to make up somewhere to make new better (assuming I drive both 10+ years to where there isn't much value for either). If you have a lot of other high interest debt that will be >= 7,500 in this case, then buy new and pay off that high interest.

CX-5 is already replaced by CX-50. Same way CX-3 was replaced by CX-40 and CX-9 by CX-90

CX-5 is going the way of dodo like c-3, cx-9
The CX-5 won't be retired as long as it sells in the numbers it is selling. Besides, the CX-50 is a much different vehicle to live with. It rides harsher and is oddly squat despite the slightly higher ground clearance (it has a lower roof for loading your lifestyle gear - though so few do it). Targeting different buyers despite the similar overall size and name.

Wife has a CX-5 and I picked up a loaded CX-9 on closeout, and I have to say that aside from the very mediocre gas mileage, it may be my favorite vehicle I have ever owned.

If Mazda would ever adapt the Toyota "prime" hybrid technology to improve their mpg (they have a working agreement with Toyota), I think they'd have a hard time keeping any of their cars on the lots. Love everything else about them.

I'm kind of curious outside of battery replacement, reliability issues, have you saved enough in gas (- cost of electricity) to make the extra cost for the vehicle worth it? Once they come down in price and become quicker charging while on the road it might make more sense for people.

8 years of factory warranty. It's Tesla!
I never kept any car for more than 5 years.

How long they will continue making the current CX5 remains to be seen. CX-3 also over lapped CX30. But the CX-5 is ending with the current generation. CX-50 is it's replacement.

To your point - the CX-5 is headed for a redesign which is speculated to be 2025. So they are likely trying to move 2024 inventory making room for the redesigned model.
the redesign better include phev and the battery better be lifepo4 batteries not shitty regular lithium ion.

the heat charging issue for lifepo4 isn't an issue for hybrids its a strawmans argument by the ev community that only use cheaper liion batteries that are cheaper but much worse and need more maintenance thus costlier in the long run for parts and service.

Which dealership? I'm on Long Island and will be spending Saturday shopping for a carbon edition as well.
