$18 for the Deluxe without State is the best I've seen this year, and just a few dollars more than what I paid last year. I'm in.

Here's my history for Deluxe without State, including tax:

2021 - $14.93
2022 - $16.00
2023 - $19.20

Prior to 2021 I had to buy the Premium version, so that's less useful to compare.

Actually, you are misleading people based on Block's misleading charts. They want to upsell, and you are helping them along taking unnecessary money out of the consumer's pocket. I have already purchased and installed Deluxe, and it does Schedule C just as it has always. It also does rental income which is something else the chart misleads about and just about any and all typical or complicated returns. The only thing it does not do is corporate income. I have already commented on this a few posts back. If you needed some clarification, you could have just asked. You must calm yourself and not side with the salesmen so much.

In fact, all versions Basic, Deluxe and Premium have and fill in the exact same forms. The only difference is in the amount of guidance you get. I have never found deluxe to lack any guidance to do any business income and expenses. It does everything from depreciation, business vehicle expenses, to the home office deduction and has more than enough guidance.

You can parrot what the marketers say and link to misleading marketing materials or you can listen to somebody that knows. This comes up every year and I warn people of it every year and even created Wiki that explains the situation.

This all caused me great concern one year when I saw people saying here on SD that Deluxe does not do Schedule C. I had already purchased a boxed version as I had been using Deluxe for many years to do my taxes and thought they had made some change. Long story short the only thing that changed was their marketing strategy, the software did just as it had all the previous years.

Not trying to be rude but please don't come out swinging like that when you are sharing misleading information supplied by the people that want our money that you have not researched and verified yourself. This is SD and it is supposed to be for the consumer, we don't share misinformation that makes other members pay more for something that is not needed.

I can understand it and excuse it as Block does its best to make you think you need a higher version when you don't but as a SD member and supposed smart consumer you have the responsibility to find out for yourself and not take a salesman's word for it before you start spreading misinformation that can cost somebody else. I am not worried about an apology, but it would be a courtesy to everybody that may be new here to get your post down as to not have somebody in these tight times be wasting money.

Looks like $20 is the new low price for Deluxe plus State with inflation. Last year it was $17.49 on Jan 14th but we may never see that price again the way things are going up in this economy.

In Jan 2023 got Premium + State for $29.99 at newegg; a 16%+ increase is steep and is early still so waiting for a better deal
Question I have is do you really need Premium? What feature or situation does it have that you find necessary?

Prob not but it is what I always used. Am a small proprietor (Sch C) and a rental property owner (Sch E). Nothing fancy, I do all of my own accounting (basically 2 piles, income received and expenses paid)

Does Deluxe handle Bonus and Sec 179 depreciation on business vehicle and tool purchases? Unlike most I opted to spread out the depreciation rather than claim the total in year 1

Yes it does. Not an expert on that but do remember doing the same. You may need information from a prior return.

thank you for the helpful info. Does the deluxe handle stock G/L and stock income? The website makes it seem like it doesnt.

Yes it does. I do remember having some problems importing 1099B one year but just entered it manually.

You do need Premium - and it's annually annoying that H&R Block up-charges by double or so for the tiny amount of added features in Premium. It's the typical opportunist cheapo attitude of corporations that figure, "they're probably richer types, so charge 'em more."
You don't need Premium for Schedule C and are just falling for a upsell. see the rest of the thread if you do not believe me. My Deluxe is installed and ready to go to do my business taxes as it always has.

You don't need it as I do the same with Deluxe. Maybe premium offers some guidance or something extra but it is not anything I ever missed, and I delve into every possible tax deduction and saving strategy.

actually it's your posts that are misleading, for instance why did you post unlabeled screen grabs of the software??

this was your claim: "Yes online and installed versions completely different", which is confusing because both retail boxed and downloadable have to be installed before they can be used.

what you are saying is that there is an online version of deluxe for instance, which is neither retail boxed nor downloadable.

Not that this thread needs any more confirmation about the differences between software and the upsale tactics but just wanted to chime in that I too have been using the deluxe version only for my needs for years. I have rental properties and other needs and this does it all.

Last year I gave a couple folks the keys and a d/l link to premium, since I used only 2 of the 5 federal files.

It would be great if someone returned the favor, deluxe is fine Smilie

Never had Premium but can attest that Deluxe does business and rental income. Covers every expense and deduction that the IRS gives. All are prompted and have guidance.

It is not a claim but a fact. Only one confused here is you. I have been using Deluxe for over 15 years and should know. Every year people here tell me it does not do Schedule C and yet it always does because it does.

I posted a screen capture of my purchased version that is installed on my home computer that I got from Newegg a few weeks back.

There is an online web edition of Deluxe. It does not do Schedule C or rental income just as I said in my response to the other SD member.

Notice I used the proper term of "online". The SD member posted this information which is for the online version
Quote :
"File with H&R Block Online Deluxe (if you have no expenses) or H&R Block Online Premium (if you have expenses)."
That is information for the online versions. You can buy access to the online version, but it does not install on your computer and is web-based version. As I said it is kind of confusing and a rip-off as the web version does not do schedule C or rental income among other things.

My version and screen caps are from the digital version downloaded directly from Newegg and I installed it on my computer. Digital versions are the exact same software that comes on a CD in the boxed version.

Your confusion this time is you using the word downloadable l like it has the same meaning as online when it does not. Again, I advise to try to know before you get all worked about things you do not understand or know about. We can maybe help you understand if you would just take a breath and calm yourself and quite worrying about being right. You don't even know the game and you are calling fouls on others.

Block Deluxe online does not do Schedule C
Block Deluxe digital (versions that install on your computer) do Schedule C.

That gets us to the other confusion where Block likes to make it appear that digital or boxed Deluxe does not do Schedule C when it does. That to, I already explained to you. If you go to Blocks website or call one of their reps and ask them, what version do I need for Schedule C they are going to tell you Premium when that is in fact not the case.

All I have said here I have already said and explained clearly in multiple posts. Why you continue to ignore it and continue to confuse others is on you.
