Can you please link to some evidence of this? I own a 2021 M1Pro 14" MBP and I haven't had any heating issues, and my understanding is that M2Pro and M3Pro are *more* efficient at dissipating heat, not less.

Certainly a 16" MBP is going to be cooler than a 14", simply by virtue of the increased chassis area to circulate and expel air. Commensurately, a 14" will throttle before a 16" does--but I've never read anything that suggests that translates into legitimate "problems" with heat. Every laptop eventually throttles. It's part of the spec.

THIS is what I've been waiting for for the last 6 months in order to upgrade my 2020 M1 that foolishly was purchased with 8gb memory. This is the sweet spot as far as I'm concerned, great deal, thanks OP!

I've had this model for a few weeks now and it hasn't even gotten warm yet, it's crazy. Most of my time has been in logic, video streaming, steam game streaming from my pc, and general tasks. I'm not editing 4k video or anything but I feel this could handle it without overheating. This is my first MBP since the 13" I owned in 2011. Holy cow what a massive leap in technology since then.

Hard to sit here and justify an upgrade for me from an M1 13" 8gb pro... I've had the 8gb cause crashes before but it is pretty uncommon. I am not a heavy user for laptops these days, so it is mostly surfing and some light photo editing (I don't bother doing video on it).

I got the 16 inch m3 mac book pro and this is my first mac machine. Im amazed by its battery life and it's coming for 2-3 days of light use with a full charge

Unlike the base-end (M3) and high-end (M3 Max) variants of the chip, the medium end M3 Pro is a side-step compared to its predecessor. It is a less complex chip (40B transistors on the M2 Pro vs 37 on the M3 Pro) despite the smaller process node used on the newer variant.. The higher-end variant of the M2 Pro has 8 performance cores and 19 GPU cores vs 6 Performance cores and 18 GPU cores on the higher end M3 Pro offering.The M2 Pro also has 33% higher Memory bandwidth (200 GB/s vs 150).
The M3 Pro has higher single core CPU performance and better energy efficiency as well as an expanded GPU feature set. In total high-end to high-end variants are about equal in Multi-core CPU performance with the M2 Pro leading in rendering performance. Currently however you can often get the high end M2 Pro (e.g. in a MacBook Pro 16) configs for less then the entry level M3 Pro configs (in this deal).

Solid move. All the reviews I've seen say it is incremental performance at best, UNLESS you need the mesh shading and ray tracing with the GPUs, along with the new hardware codecs for photo exports. I don't do anything with photography, so I'm sure I would've been content with an M2--but still jumped on this deal anyway.
