Got this a few months ago. Not sure if i got a defective one, but i try not to use it unless i have no other chargers around because it tends to get hot after 10 minutes of use.

No worry with the U'L. safety certification.

Is it the WCA005 model or the newer GaN? Laptop or phone? If pulling 30 watts it should get hot, up to 140 F I think. But it has good safety controls and a tablet or phone will charge quickly. If I need 30 watts continuous then I'll use a 45 or 60 to lower the heat and extend the life when possible.

Belkin has a 2 year warranty and a connected equipment warranty. The included cable is of good quality. It appears as if Belkin is discontinuing kits with cables which may be why this hit liquidation.

A great phone and tablet-optimized charger. If you're simply seeking something for your iPhones you can probably save a few bucks for a model that doesn't bother with PPS support and/or the 15V Power Delivery profile. At the same time, there have been competitive chargers at this price point which also manage to incorporate support for the 20V Power Deliver profile making them all-around chargers you could use between your phone, tablet, and laptops.

The Programmable Power Supply specifications would support 25W Super Fast Charging.

Output (PDO)
  • 5V / 3A
  • 9V / 3A
  • 15V / 2A
Output (PPS)
  • 3.3V – 11.0V / 2.72A
  • 3.3V – 16.0V / 1.87A
Good luck!
Jon

Jon, Thank you for posting the output volts and amps. IPhone users may not need PPS but they will still benefit from the safety certification build quality and reliability. Belkin Boost fast charge cable is USB-IF certified, $9 by itself and high quality. Cable is not included with the Insignia. That one isn't a folding wall huger which are preferred by some.

Agreed on both counts. I didn't mean to suggest that the Belkin was a bad deal, but rather that the value of this charger will depend upon the specific needs of the buyer.

Personally the only AC USB charger brands I own and operate regularly are Samsung, Apple, Belkin, and some old Blackberry 2.5W chargers for overnight charging. I have a high-power Insignia as well for certain back-up scenarios (usually if I'm charging a lot of devices at once).

Good luck!

Power Quality is noted in some tests such as those by youtuber allthingsoneplace. While his methodology is coarse it is interesting to note that some power supplies have poor power quality at 5, 10, 20 or 30% rated output in contrast to p.q. and efficiency which can be in the 90's when driven at close to maximum output.

If a laptop is connected full time then this might possibly be an issue for certain power supplies where having little to no ac ripple is desirable. I'm not an engineer, just a user who has lost a few motherboards to poorly designed USB power delivery supplies. In retrospect there was excess heat in the laptop when connected and cpu usage was low.

When using a new p.s. it is a good idea to watch for heat fully charged, connected and light duty like browsing,
