Does anyone know if I can just play videos straight off of an SD card with this?
It has a micro SD slot, so I would assume yes you could play files right off SD. However neither youtube review I watched mentioned this.
This is tempting.... sometimes I want to watch sports while I'm doing stuff on the computer or using the TV for something else.
I might pick one up just to take on trips..... the reviews do say the fan is pretty loud though, so putting one right in front of you on your desk might not be a great move.

Is there anything like this out there that has ethernet port.
looks like you may be able to use a usb Ethernet adapter on the onn device. Someone on Reddit had success with the older version (though they're very similar).
i dont know anything about projectors. but im very happy with this. making about a 40in size screen i can see the projection fine in a lit room. looks 1080 to me. like most cheap TVs the blacks are completely nonexistent. but anything normally lit looks good.
If you're only looking for a 40" image size, just get a TV. It'll have better blacks, can be used during day, and you won't have to deal with focus or distortion. The newer TVs also draw less power (a few dozen Watts, vs a couple hundred for a projector).
The use case for a projector are
if you wnat a larger image than you can get with a TV (mine displays on a 150" screen).
to project an image where you can't or wouldn't want to place a TV (e.g. wall of a play room where kids might break a TV, outdoors during a party, etc).
you need a screen which disappears when not in use (e.g. 50" screen which rolls up into the ceiling when not in use). This is pretty rare - mostly RVs and boats.

The LED lamp on this projector is rated for 50,000 hours. It will likely not be the first thing to fail on this projector. The 2 year warranty is $3.50.
Bear in mind that for most extended warranties, if the repair cost exceeds your purchase price, the warranty company will just cut you a check for your purchase price instead of fixing it, and terminate the warranty. That can be annoying if you actually use the thing and would prefer to have it fixed.

I'd personally recommend getting a used projector from an actual brand name - BenQ, Epson, and Optoma are the most common projector brands. Both BenQ and Optoma use DLP technology, while Epson uses LCD. This can make a difference with the "rainbow effect" that some people are susceptible to from the spinning color wheel in a DLP projector.
I'm very sensitive to the rainbows (I can see them whenever my eyes move from one part of the image to another). But the latest DLP projectors have a wheel which spins quickly enough that it hasn't been an issue. I can still see the rainbow, but it's minor enough that I can just ignore it. A massive improvement over the early DLP projectors where I could see the rainbow/flicker just looking at a static image.
DLP tends to have better black levels than LCD, and less blurring in motion. Its disadvantages are the rainbows, a stronger "screen door" effect (you can see the outline of the pixels), and manufacturers are more likely to use image shifting with it. The vast majority of "4k" DLP projectors actually use a 1080p DLP imager, which does image shift to simulate 4k. It does look better than 1080p, but isn't quite as good as true 4k.

There is another review I saw as well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQwEvjGuyb8. This one said once he moved the projector past about 9-10 feet away from the wall, he could no longer focus the image. At 9-10feet, the picture size was barely 100" diagonal. I was thinking about getting this projector because I have a 140" wall and it is brighter than my current projector... but if I can't get it focused past 100" I'll have to pass. Anyone else have hands on experience with this projector and its focusing?
The specs say it can do a 32"-150" image, so either the specs are lying or the review is wrong.
If the problem is focus distance (rather than throw - image size at a given distance), you can try adding a diopter. That's basically a thin lens that you mount in front. I don't recall if you'll need a positive diopter (for close-up photography) or negative. I suspect it's the negative, but the positive are much easier to find for sale. If you're nearsighted, your glasses are a negative diopter. You can try holding them in front and see if that lets you focus further.
Unfortunately, the price of a good diopter will probably equal the price of this projector deal. So you may be better off getting a projector which suits your needs out of the box.
Twice the price! but yeah, for an extra $30, it might be worth if it for the extra brightness. gotta a daughter heading off to college next year and she just said she wanted a projector, might give this a go...
thanks
Will this fool a non videophile on a 100" screen? I just spent almost 2 grand on a triple laser projector so I know it's not gonna be even close to the same ballpark but it would be nice to have something outside...

I would say no. This is just not bright enough at only 250 lumens. For those projector displays the brighter the better. If you want to do the creepy Halloween window, or the Christmas projection you really need at MINIMUM 500, but really 1000 for better results. You can get a projector like that usually on ebay for less than $100.
I think you'll be disappointed if you try with 250 lumen projector.
This. I looked up my cheap projector from windowfx that was around $70 on sale and it turns out that crappy thing has 1,200 lumens and 15% keystone correction. I would argue that thing is barely bright enough for windows and wish it was brighter and had shorter throw. Was excited this could be better if not the same as that crappy projector but does not seem to be the case

for $106 you can get a projector with 13000 lumens!! you can watch it on the sun!
Lol that was my initial thought as well that the lumens reported by the mfg were completely fake but I believe it. I have a 2,000 a 3,000 and a 4,000 ansi projector (for projector mapping) which are epson, benq and viewsonic so I can see the crappy windowfx one actually being in the ballpark of 800 although the lens, build quality and everything is bottom of the barrel low quality. Windowfx does not actually list lumens in their listings, had to pull the datasheet so a bit more believable vs a marketing gimmick
But then that's back down to 250 lumens - you need 16 of them for 4K@1K lumens, which would a least be a big hit on your electricity, if not a significant fire hazard. 🤷
I bought a 1080p projector from Amazon for $140. Reviews were really good but I was not impressed. Was spec'd at 60 Hz but seemed more like it was 30 Hz. I ended up returning it. I can't imagine this is any better but at least for $30 I might have been more inclined to just keep it.

But what if you just bought 2 and had one on the washing machine to make it a "pixel shifter"?

I have had a projector for years. Started off with an Infocus 4805 screen play that came out in 2004, Than moved up to IN72 that came out in 2008 had that for a while. Than about 2018 got a Optoma Darbee HD39 with 3,500 ANSI. Screen Play was 750 and the IN72 was 900 ANSI. 250 ANSI this needs to be in a dark room. You might be able to have a little light VERY LITTLE but not much at all. the darbee I can still watch with all the light on in my Livingroom with really no issues
Not sure how well this will do with fast motion like watching sports but I can tell you for experience this will need to be in a very dark room For $29 I'll play around with it even though I don't have a need for it.
That brought back memories. I had the Infocus 4805.

For the lazy, but curious.
thanks
