Agreed. Per the Brita performance datasheet, this is an aesthetic filter which is more of a "make the water taste good" NSF standard filter than say one that filters nasty stuff you don't actually want in your body.

The basic Class VI coarse filter rating for Standard 42 (aesthetics) applies to these contaminants: Chlorine, Chloramine, Bad Tastes & Odors, Sediment.

Insulated? Doesn't look insulated to me. I had a two layered plastic bottle with a layer of what looks like aluminized plastic in between and it was horrible at keeping my water cold.

It is nice for those that want to keep plastic water bottles out of the landfill though.

I think insulated nowadays just means you won't burn your hands if you put hot liquids in there or condensation won't form if you put ice cold water in there.. Maybe ionno lol

Is this a viable option to use when hiking out in the wilderness?

Here's info on the filters. Looks like it's for chlorine and some particulates so would *not* be suitable for "outdoors" (e.g. filtering water from a stream or, especially, stagnant source):

I own a couple of these. I love them when on road trips or at theme parks where "free" water tastes funny (Disney World). One thing that I don't understand is why they don't make a double walled model. If you put ice in it don't expect it to last long. For the price it's worth it IMO.

I bought one when I went to Vegas years ago. Worth it for those hangover mornings to avoid the expensive in room water bottles (yes, I'm looking at you Aria). I take it with me when I travel and just fill up using the sink which has been convenient

The straws on these get moldy pretty quickly. My daughter took one to college. It didn't last the semester. Im sure she never cleaned it or took it apart to air dry, so just be aware if you purchase.

I throw the filter out every couple weeks and clean using straw brush including the spout. no molds what so ever. pretty straight forward process, not too many parts to remove while cleaning. Having said that I would never put hot liquids in it. I use it just for water. I don't understand why they market this water bottle as insulated.

I love these bottles when we travel with my family (or for a business trip)! You can fill it with water anywhere, and it doesn't taste like 💩. If you want to reduce plastic bottles, this is a great option, highly recommended.

As a sailor, these are fantastic for ship water, which has bromine in it. Great price!

Nope. This version isn't insulated. It's a misprint. If you put hot liquid in this it will burn your hand.
