The FlexVolt batteries don't seem to overheat like the regular 20v ones do with this mower in my experience - but my anecdotal experience doesn't mean others will see the same. I honestly love the mower - beats the doors off the Ryobi I previously used.
This is such a ridiculously good deal I would instantly buy a second mower if it was available near me.
Yes, gas will win out in terms of power and sustained runtime all day, there is a bit more thinking that goes with electric equipment though and, truth be told, the proper way is to mow no more than 1/3 of your grass at a time, don't mow when it's raining, mow more frequently during the growing season--Which applies to both gas and electric (for yard health) but moreso electric, as this really makes the motor work harder, drains the batteries faster and thus you have heat. And using electric equipment in hot weather is problematic as well and not too many people are willing to adjust their timeline for mowing (early morning) and still insist on going out when air temp is 80-90+, which puts the mower and batteries past their limits for operating temp when you factor in the sun beaming down on your equipment. Not an issue with gas. So, for anyone considering going electric, keep that in mind.
What it comes down to is just taking the time to read your manuals and adjusting for the equipment you bought. Stick with gas if you're an old dog that ain't willing to learn a new trick and buy the appropriate equipment for the job.

Make sure to open both boxes: unit and battery. If the batteries are gone, have them swap the batteries from the display model into the retail box and check out. My store would not replace the missing ones they just rma'd them back to home base.
Be careful your garage doesn't burn down (and your house, if it's attached to your garage).

60v to 80v or higher is highly recommended.
