I just bought the $199 Gen 2s at Costco, replacing Gen 1s that have been in service since May 2020. The Gen 1s still work fine—except the external mic on the left bud has come loose to some degrees. It makes clicking noises in the left bud with Transparency or Noise Cancellation turned on, if you move your head. Sitting still it's fine, turn those modes off, no issue when moving. They're going to remain my spare pair for work, I'll just avoid those modes.
The AirPods Pro are by far my favorite Apple product besides the iPhone, and my most used besides iPhone. I used them daily, they've simply been great. I would recommend getting AppleCare—my current Gen 1s were an AppleCare replacement after the case went through the wash. They're too small and too much of a take-everywhere device to skimp on that coverage. I also put the case in a rubberized shell, you can find them all over Amazon. It won't keep them scuff free, dust/fine dirt can get in between, but the drop protection helped significantly. That bare hard case smacking the ground is not a fun sound 😛
I don't think these are as easily Chinese-able as generic headphones. These are custom apple chips and software talking with the phone. Harder to copy and easier to spot a fake
