5 series TCL should get absolutely smoked by an 8 series flagship Hisense in terms of picture quality. Hisense 100" U8K was $3000 but is no longer available. The TCL equivalent would be the 98" QM8.

I wouldn't have bit on the Hisense either though because it's the first year they've done 100"…probably a limited run & there could be problems. Good luck getting that thing serviced if you don't maintain a warranty where they come to your house to work on it.

Also the 85" version of this TCL S5 is just $800. Big price difference for the upgrade.

I have this, it's pretty good for the price. Picture quality and brightness are better than expected for a direct lit panel, the black levels are pretty good (85% of oled) . Input lag on gaming great as well. The only pain in the ass was the wall mount, the VESA pattern is like 500x600.

Would love to trade my Sony 77" OLED for this but don't really want to deal with the pain of swapping and selling the old one. But for future reference 77" is too small to anyone considering it.
How far away do you sit. I'm thinking it would be good for 7-8' away. 6' for gaming. Most people still sit much further away.

Exactly. TV viewing distance is the main concern when figuring out a tv size when buying a tv.

I think rtings did a good job with this calculator. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews...lationship

Glad to see price is coming down for >85" 4k TV. I would like to get this size, but just bought 83" Lg OLED a year ago, couldn't justify it yet, but next upgrade would definitely in the 96" to 100" for theater experience.

Are you sitting 50 feet away or something?

Where are you finding your high end TCL 98" with "mini led tech" for $2500?
