I was looking at the Micro Center's Intel i7 14700K, MSI Z790-P Pro WiFi, G.Skill 32GB DDR5-6000 Kit for $704.97 and then saw Newegg's Combo Up Savings for the following which was better priced than Micro Center's deal:

Intel Core i7-14700K CPU
https://www.newegg.com/asus-rog-s...6813119635

ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-H Gaming (WiFi 6E) LGA 1700(Intel14th &13th&12th Gen) ATX gaming motherboard(DDR5 up to 7800 MT/s, PCIe 5.0 x16 SafeSlot with Q-Release, 4xPCIe 4.0 M.2 slots,USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C, front-panel connector, AI Motherboard)
https://www.newegg.com/asus-rog-s...6813119635

G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6400 Desktop Memory Model F5-6400J3239G16GX2-TZ5RK
https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32...6820374358 (this RAM is listed on ASUS's QVL page)

This combo price is $691.53 (after $80 off and the G.SKILL memory shows an additional $7 off with promo code CCBDN9263) making this total combo price $684.53, which is cheaper than Micro Center's $704.97 combo deal. Free shipping.

Microcenter doesn't seem to be offering meaningful discounts on its 14700k bundles currently. If you live within driving distance of a microcenter, waiting for them to drop prices on the bundles again is a no-brainer compared to this newegg "deal". Previously the 14700k microcenter bundle with a slightly lower tier motherboard compared to the one in this newegg bundle was $550, and with a moderately lower tier motherboard the 14700k microcenter bundle was $500. Microcenter's 13700k bundle has gone down as low as $450. The ram included in the microcenter bundles is somewhat worse (ddr5 6000 cl36 using samsung memory chips), but unless you plan on manually overclocking/tuning your memory the performance delta will be minimal.
Here are the previous microcenter deals:
https://slickdeals.net/f/17072740-microcenter-intel-i7-14700k-msi-z790-p-pro-wifi-g-skill-32gb-ddr5-6000-kit-computer-build-bundle-499-99
https://slickdeals.net/f/17035831-intel-core-i7-14700k-msi-z790-p-pro-wifi-mb-32gb-ddr53-in-1-combo-549-99-microcenter
https://slickdeals.net/f/17020960-micro-center-intel-core-i7-13700k-asus-z790-p-prime-wifi-ddr5-g-skill-32gb-ddr5-6000-kit-computer-build-bundle-449-99

It should also be noted that the 14700k is a rather minor improvement over the 13700k, even with 4 additional e-cores its performance uplift is in the low single digits in all but a few specific productivity applications where it can reach a 10% performance improvement. Most people are far better off looking for a discounted 13700k deal as opposed to spending more on a 14700k. Here's gamers nexus reviewing the 14700k: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KKE-7BzB_M

The 14700k normally goes for ~$400 from online retailers (and $370 from microcenter), with occasional sales a bit lower. The 13700k can be found on sale as low as $345 from online retailers. The motherboard in this bundle is rather nice, but motherboards only marginally worse (not in ways that'll matter to 90% of people) can be found for around $200 on a good sale. If you don't need all the high-end motherboard features you can find competent z690 ddr5 boards in the $150 range on sale (there have been occasional clearances even cheaper, but I haven't seen any recently). The ram in this combo is good, ddr5 6400 cl32 is guaranteed to use hynix memory chips. The ram is worth around $110 at most to those who won't do any manual overclocking/tuning, for those who are willing to do so you can find ddr5 6000 cl30 kits that have similar potential for as low as $90 on an excellent sale.

Overall, this is an absolutely terrible deal if you live within driving distance of a microcenter and are willing to wait for them to drop prices on the bundles again. If you don't live in range of a microcenter, this is still a lukewarm deal at best.

Wouldn't say it's terrible at all..if you have fomo, or just vices of 'looks' the board here is "nicer" and if you need a build now, it's a good deal actually.

Ofc, I don't know who would buy 14th gen at all , unless truly a necessity. 13th Gen is fine and much cheaper, but avoid i9 since heard it's more problematic than it's worth, especially the excellent stability of 13700k.

Unless you're upgrading from Intel 9th Gen or earlier, and NEED, just wait for 15th gen new socket or go for AMD.

Having said all that, it doesn't make this deal bad, relatively. Intel period at this point in time is simply not worth it , unless as you noted buying 13th gen AND coming from a much older chip AND can't wait NOR can use AMD

HOPING the MC in Charlotte opens sooner than later as all I need is a board and cpu to start my build. Even with an hour and a half drive, the prices at MC for a 14700k plus the board I want is an unbeatable deal compared to anything online.

EDIT - well I stand corrected. I can get within 2 dollars for the same combo at Newegg at the moment. Applause

I dunno, you can get the 7800x3D for less than ten dollars more, I don't know as much about use cases that prefer Intel though. https://www.newegg.com/tools/combo-builder/4188

If it's gaming you're after, get an AMD 7800X3D combo. They've been as low as $550, if not lower.

I'm upgrading from 9th gen. Can you clarify your meaning? Also, how would I determine the equivalent AMD processor?

There is nothing wrong with Intel 14th Gen. However being 97% identical to 13th gen, save $200-300 and go with 13th gen.

Current AMD (aka AM5) is only preferable IF you plan on upgrading again within 2-3 years because you can use the same motherboard.

By far the best value today for new build is Intel 13th gen.

If you will upgrade within 2 years OR if you absolutely want AM5 and can spend more, AMD is great too.

Honestly, except for some avid gamers with very specific games, Intel is better for most productivity.

AMD 7950 = Intel 13900k
7900 = 13700k
7700 = 13700k/13600

Any no problem you've read of DDR5, AM5 , etc are past except for some extreme overclockers.

Can go wrong with any Intel 13/14 or AM5 really. Let your wallet decide

Stick that thumb where the sub don't shine. I'm officially finished commenting or providing info @ and opinions here. Barely anyone thanks, and some who appreciate it don't even know how to rep

I'll spend my energy in forums where there is less trolling and at least can benefit my own self profile and promotions. SD contribution is truly ZERO benefit for those that add value. worse yet, android folks don't have thumb downs, so all those doing it are iPhone or web users. SD should take it away . but they hardly care
