You must add both items to cart. See attachment for details.

The mouse is filler to activate combo discounts. It doesn't seem to have any notable qualities.

This is the best price that I've seen in a while for a high-end Gen 4 SSD. It should have an Innogrit IG5236 controller + Micron 176L TLC NAND. It's about half a step below the WD SN850X for performance. It's largely the same drive as the Acer GM7000, HP FX900 Pro, or ADATA S70 Blade.

However, you must confirm the firmware, NAND and controller upon receipt. This controller has reported issues with older firmware versions and/or non-Micron NAND (specifically YMTC). You can find this info with the Innogrit NVMe Flash ID Utility.

This might not be the best choice for important data, even if the IG5236 controller issues have been resolved with firmware updates. I don't know if Mushkin has been diligent with firmware updates or still uses Micron NAND.

With 2GB DDR4 DRAM and 1000TB TBW looks not bad for it's price.
I choose a combo: Mushkin Vortex 4TB + MOUNTAIN Nunatak XL Gaming Mousepad

This seems like an excellent price for a 4tb tlc pcie gen4 ssd with dram (with a cheap mouse as a bonus), but I have serious concerns about its reliability and longevity. The specs can be found here: https://www.poweredbymushkin.com/...sdvt4tb-d8

Edit: It's possible that mushkin has typos on their official specs page for tbw endurance rating, the newegg specs indicate 2000tbw for this drive and the 2tb version of this drive is listed as having 1000tbw in mushkin's official specs. 2000tbw is still very poor for a gen 4 tlc drive, but at least falls within the realm of grudgingly acceptable for a lower tier tlc drive. Regardless, assuming the tbw for this drive is in fact 2000tbw, it reflects rather poorly on mushkin that their official specs page lists the wrong tbw twice, including in the warranty information.

First, addressing the tbw rating, 1000tbw for a modern 4tb tlc drive is shockingly low, and is actually worse than some qlc drives. Most competent gen 4 tlc drives will have a tbw rating of around 600tbw per 1tb of capacity, 2400tbw is the standard for midrange and higher 4tb tlc drives. Decent quality qlc drives such as the solidigm p41 plus have a rating of 400tbw per 1tb capacity. The fact this drive has less than half the endurance that's expected for a drive of its class, and is in fact substantially worse than some qlc drives despite using tlc nand, raises a massive red flag in my mind.

Moving on to the controller, as mentioned by the OP the innogrit ig5236 is well known for having tons of issues. The ig5236 is infamous for bricking itself when paired with ymtc nand, random corruption issues, as well as having smart issues depending on firmware revisions. It's also well known for overheating and thermal throttling quickly, though that's more anecdotal and likely depends on exact conditions. While the pervasive bricking issues specifically seem to be exclusive to ymtc nand (it has been known to brick with non-ymtc nand, but far more rarely and quite possibly not the same exact issue), other issues are known to occur with nand from other brands, including micron. Regardless, either the controller itself has underlying hardware issues, or innogrit is so awful at developing firmware that even after 2 years of the issues being mass reported they can't stop it from bricking drives.

Overall, considering the current state of the ssd market where prices have been raising since November, this is an exceptionally good price for a 4tb tlc pcie gen4 ssd with dram. Its performance, particularly random 4k read iops, is somewhat behind high end gen 4 drives, but should be sufficient for the vast majority of users. Higher end gen 4 drives can offer a meaningful performance increase in specific workloads, and may become far more relevant once directstorage matures and becomes more widespread, but at the moment the performance delta for everyday use doesn't justify the price difference for most users. That being said, even though the price for capacity and performance is excellent, the reliability and longevity of this drive is extremely questionable. I absolutely would not store any important data on this drive without complete redundancy, and would recommend a full backup of anything you store on it. I likewise wouldn't recommend using it as a boot drive. If you're willing to take the risk, this is an excellent value drive for those who maintain consistent full backups or raid setups with complete redundancy.

Mushkin doens't do firmware update. Period. I can't find anything on their support site for this NVME. It's good for game drive but I wouldn't put anything more important than that.

Issues like the firmware and controller help explain why this drive is reduced in price while most others are going UP in price.

This is tempting to upgrade my 2TB nvme in my pS5 to 4TB. 2TB is really too small, been deleting games every time I download a new one.

Edit: ugh, it's Newegg. Never mind. Won't be ordering from them ever again.

Wondering if I should pull the trigger. Wanting to upgrade the 2x 1tb mirror setups in truenas scale. It's not boot drive but the one used for apps. Hoping to back all that up to another pool and then eventually to back blaze. Would love the 4 tb aspect and future proofing. Comments are a little concerning but wondering if I have backups is it worth it with my setup.
Also the max my mother board can support on the 10th gen 10850 is gen 3 nvme. So won't be able to use to the mac anyways.

Don't so it, it might be $170, but it's a definite gamble. My Adata S70 died randomly, which is the same controller...I just have to get around to sending it in for a warranty exchange.

How is Newegg return policy if I want to return if it's not the expected NAND and controller models?

You really do not want to be buying and trying to return anything to Newegg. Do a google search and add in Gamers Nexus. I used to order a LOT from them, never again.

Good luck even getting your order. More than than once I've had my orders stuck in "preparing for shipment" and had to continually email and call customer service for weeks while they "conducted an investigation" before receiving a refund after they said they have no idea what happened.
