And, a reminder that you do not need Premium for Schedule C / Self Employed. All of the forms, and interview questions, that you need are included in Deluxe. The comparisons of what features are included in Deluxe vs. Premium are misleading. I've been using H&R Block Deluxe for over 5 years and I file a Schedule C / Self Employed.

As for a refund, you should NEVER try to get a refund. You should always aim to pay as much as possible without owing a penalty.

As far as filing time goes, no one said to do taxes in the 11th hour. The person being quoted just said end of season, the meaning of which is debatable. Also, the act of filing taxes and preparing to file are two separate things. You can have all of your docs ready in February and not file until late March or deadline. It's a matter of organization. If you're a disorganized person, then definitely try to file as soon as you can as you are more likely to discover what you might be missing. For everyone else, it doesn't make it stupid to file close to the deadline.
And like I said, tax guidelines change throughout the season and filing too early could have negative impact.
So, to me, don't waste your time with online versions.
I've been using it for years and it's pretty simple to use. I did mine by paper first and then did a comparison and it sure was easier and worked. It's nice that it has all the income sources from previous year and you just have to update it (add or delete). I usually have a shc. C each year so it does work for small business. Have no State income tax tho.
I have a w-2 job, kids, a mortgage and a side hustle selling items on amazon (less than 20k in sales volume so I won't get a 1099k)
It also allows you to fill out a sch C if you need to for your side hustle. I haven't paid for tax service for years and still file a sch C. I have used Quicken previously to keep track of income and expenses. Reluctant to use them because of them changing to annual fee BS.
