This is a 14" super slim and light gaming laptop and maxed out to RTX 4070. Only Asus g14 2023 offers anything over RTX 4070 but they cost higher. Here you're paying the premium for the size, portability and the form factor, not for beasty configuration for the price. There are plenty of bigger full sized gaming laptops for that.

If I was going for a 14" gaming laptop. I think I would rather spend $1.5K and get the Acer Predator Triton 14 instead. You are getting a mini-LED 250Hz HDR 600 certified panel with it.
Even after adding $100 for memory upgrade to 32GB, you are still looking at $400 cheaper.

Not sure if you're aware of the fact that devices with LPDDR memory cannot be upgraded, inclduing the HP one and the Acer one. So, with Acer, you're stuck with that 16GB. However, I agree that Acer is a better value for money but this one has the latest Meteor Lake Core Ultra CPU, meaning you'll get far superior battery life, something lacking in 12th and 13th gen Processors. Also, check the initial videos by Jarrod's Tech and you'll find out that this one is ligher, has far superior and premium build quality.

Intel's new naming scheme is dumb af.

1. ** Correction, this laptop actually has a:

Intel® Core™ Ultra 9 processor 185H… Which BestBuy calls an Intel Core Ultra 9 Series 9 Series 1…

Which I call an i9.

2. Does this laptop not get the new Arc Graphics igpu? I don't see it mentioned…

3. New cpu has a lower boost than 13900H, which can boost to.
- 13900H P-core 5.4ghz / E-core 4.1ghz 🤔
- Ultra 9 P-core 5.1ghz / E-core 3.8ghz / Low Power Cores 2.5ghz 🤔

I'll personally wait for some reviews on the new Intel CPUs and this laptop before I consider $2000 for a small gaming laptop with a 4070.

I wasn't buying it until a price break anyway, but this is a dealbreaker for me from Best Buy. It's $40 to add the Wi-Fi 7 compatibility on HP's website which, while annoying, is far less annoying than buying a new Ultra chip laptop in 2024 and being stuck with an old standard.

Good laptop aside from that (we'll see what reviews say) and I do appreciate a "gaming" laptop with a dedicated GPU that doesn't look like something from a Diplo set (you can disable the RGB lighting).

Best But configs are not correct. I have checked HP Product page and it is 2024, just got released in CES couple of days back.

The Asus g14 2023 with 4070 costs $1399 currently. Cheaper and better.

Cheaper, yes, but better is subjective. This is a higher resolution 16x10 OLED panel, far superior to the panel you get in the $1400 Asus. To get the upgraded Asus panel, you have to spend over $2000 and buy a 4080/4090 version of it. Better is entirely subjective. Creatives will prefer the OLED panel, and the extra vertical resolution is significant for productivity folks. I have friends who travel and work and HATE being constrained to a 16x9 aspect ratio on their laptops. The bars and ribbons of your apps take up enough of a chunk of that room that the rest of your screen feels very small.

For games and movies, 16x9 is just fine, meaning the $1400 Asus is $600 better, because that's 600 more dollars in your pocket over the HP, and your games will be great.

The 120hz vs 165hz is also not quite as black and white as meets the eye. While yes, 165hz is faster, OLED panel response times are significantly better than backlit LCDs. Lots of videos online demonstrating how much of a difference pixel response time means when gaming.

I went to check on it, and you're right, but what TICKS ME OFF about HP's website, is that they're pulling the fetching Apple-style RAM scam. I'd be totally happy with the entry CPU and 4060 on a thin and light laptop like this. You're not gonna reach the 4070's full potential at 90w anways.

BUT NOOOOO.... you want 32GB of RAM? FIVE HUNDRED BUCKS, BABY. You can't just upgrade the RAM if you know 16 won't be enough.

I hate when vendors pull that crap.
