From my photo printing experience over a decade ago, it's never worth it to print your own photos. Cost per print is too high and your printer never performs as well, leaving you with streaks and imperfections over time.

Leave all the overhead and maintenance to the professionals and capitalize on their ridiculously low prices.

This is a scanner not a printer

I have the original model and it's excellent if you have cartons full of family pictures (or anything else) you want to digitize. It's super fast and can scan back and front in the same scan (good for when notes were made on the back of a photo or it has a processing date stamp). It's a little pricey but the time it saves is well worth it. Just make sure you have a good ext. drive to save to and another to backup.

One of my favorite purchases. If you have a lot of old photos, this is a must as it also enhances your old photos as well. I've scanned thousands of photos and uploaded it to Google photos. Now I can share old photos with family and friends much easier than looking through an old photo album.

I got the Plustek Z300 [amazon.com] for $200. It's nowhere near as fast as this $500 Epson, but I could still do about 350 photos an hour. That's for loose photos- obviously if they're in albums it takes longer. Something else to consider depending on how many photos you have and how highly you value your time.

How does it compare to the ScanSnap ix1600 for photographs?
