Link's Awakening is the most enjoyable game I've played on the Switch. I remember playing it on the GameBoy as well. Timeless.
Wait for $30 for both. Both have been there.

This price is what both of these should have retailed at to begin with.

I bought skyward sword off a deal posted here some months back and I still can't bring myself to play that game more than a handful of hours. It's honestly a terrible experience to play after becoming spoiled by BotW/TotK and their freedom of movement and exploration. I'm not saying I don't like older Zelda titles, I loved Windwaker and Twilight Princess when I was younger, but skyward sword feels like such an absolute slog to play

SS is a lot more repetitive than other Zelda games.

I respect your opinion. I dropped off about halfway through. The game is inscrutable. You have to do random stuff with no hints or indication where to go.

Plan on using a guide because the game doesn't make a lot of sense at times.

You are 5000% right about that. There were several dungeons that could not be passed without a cheat guide or walkthrough. Even if I had played the game before...mind you, several decades before. I seem to remember one where you had to drop from a higher floor into certain spot(s), the drop was completely blind and if you were off a square or two you died or lost 5+ minutes of backtracking for every failed attempted. Honestly when the OG version was released those $20-30 guide books were almost a requirement to own with some RPG's as the puzzles were not puzzles at all. Just nutty events you either had to brut force you way, trying every possible combo or had to know the sequence. Speaking of those guides, in today's money those books must have costed $50+ dollars. Crazy to think about.

Yeah, if only nintendo just had the balls to release the Nintendo switch 2...

To those who downvoted, stop being a bunch of blind fanboys in denial. It is impressive how Nintendo was able to get so much out of that old hardware (ie. Zelda Tears of The Kingdoms)... but the Nintendo Switch starting to age pretty bad and needs to be put down.
The balls? Take a risk going bankrupt, again? Why do you want them to do that?

Recent polls still show many in the US fear a recession which means they won't spend as much in the entertainment category, especially since college loan payments have now resumed. Releasing in the fall makes good business sense if the fed continues to ease these fears as they've done very recently. This will once again create an inventory issue for the holiday rush giving them free marketing and becoming the "hot" must have item under the tree and help their bottom $.

Ask the owl for hints.

This YT series is good if you want to play it muted at 4x speed to see what you're missing.

Man, the days of Nintendo Power. I had a neighbor that used to work for them. He said each person hired was responsible to be an expert in "their" game. Their job was to play that game between calls to figure out any strategies. He said it was great for those that had Zelda since there were many nuances and you actually talked to people instead of his random game that he slaved over for 8 hours a day hoping for a call about it. Helps explain the high costs when you factor in so many people and games. Also explains why they went under with so much overhead competing against free internet forums and then YouTube being the final nail.

The best is those full color guides came out the same day as the game so they had to be 100 percent-ing games months and months in advance to make the release schedule, especially considering there weren't computers (like we have now) so the screen capture, editing, printing process, etc was all done manuallyā€¦further complicating things. It was probably quite the feat.

A shame how Link's Awakening runs. They should have given the option to remove the blur effect around the corners and gone for a smooth 60FPS.

7 years is a long time for any hardware. Even if Switch's raw power isn't its main draw, maybe Switch 2 will have innovations that will make games more fun and immersive. I'm hoping for that. It is Nintendo, any console upgrades they've done haven't been just simple GPU upgrades. I'm hoping they break the curse of every other console release is a flop vs a success. By this time, early Switch adopter's batteries are dying out and they'd rather upgrade than buy a replacement battery. In this industry, if you don't innovate, another company will take you over. Switch's staying power for 7 years is a success story that's for sure, but I don't think they want to keep relying on that.

A lot of the games are a product of their times. I happily bought SS at release and have had silly amounts of fun with it. I remember when it first came out and I could finally swing the sword. We only had the single TV in our home and I totally took time from my kids watching the Wiggles so I could engage in a dream come true.

People playing LoZ, or even worse, AoL, today probably cannot believe the lack of maps. Or the tons of backtracking needed. That said, no game is for everyone and we can all enjoy or dislike any game.

You are 1000% on one point to me though - BotW/TotK's freedom makes any non-open game just feel like being locked in.

Rumor is Switch 2 will use AI to upscale games to resemble 4K while still using lower end physical hardware. Good chance they can re-release older games and let AI sort it out.

I recall SNES having the ability to play gameboy games but with a touch of color, perhaps they make adapters for older games to be brought into switch 2 with AI to make them playable again.

Games younger than these have been going for $20 or less. Nintendo would NOT dare allow greater than 50% discount.

I'm glad its not just me with this issue! I know it's a remake of an old game that likely had an instruction manual or something to assist, but literally 10 minutes into the game, I had no clue what I was supposed to be doing. I just wandered around for a while, killing things, mowing grass, and collecting rupees.

Even now several hours in, I'll still get stuck wandering aimlessly through a dungeon trying to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing. I guess I'm just spoiled on newer games with tutorials and whatnot to help move things along.

Still a great game but it goes from relaxing to maximum frustration real quick when you can't figure out WTF to do.
