I do not recommend Spectrum Mobile. They are an MVNO on Verizon towers and when the network is congested, you have little to no connection because your priority is so low. There is also no upgrade option for a prioritized connection. I dropped them after 1 month.
I test with the following tiv samsung phones:

A14 $714
A54 $770
S23fe $880
S23+ $994
Trade in my Google Pixel 6A for $757 that I originally got from metro for $50 years ago. Makes this a true slickdeal 🫡

I'm going to attempt to simply activate the S24 when it arrives with my current SIM card and not activate using esim. I prefer being able to swap the SIM card into any phone I choose. I'm hoping to get the activation email afterwards and hoping I don't have issues unlocking after 60 days. I'm willing to roll the dice for the price I'm paying and the flexibility to have my free line on whatever phone I choose.
Yes, I do have a physical sim as well and plan to do that, but I am unsure if Samsung has sim slots since they didn't give us an option to choose when ordering

And for activation the phone should've been activated with the line to start the 60 days counter I assume

Good idea. Which bank, what type of card you took?
It depends on whether you prefer a cashback credit card or a travel credit card. Additionally, your current spending habits play a role. If you don't have other significant expenses in the near future, an ideal spending range for a welcome bonus might be between $1500 and $2000. Some banks offer temporary card numbers immediately after approval, ensuring you don't have to worry about not receiving the card before January 30th. Others support sending the card via UPS Next Day after approval.

If you're not a frequent credit card player, it's advisable to apply for a no-annual-fee credit card. While credit cards with annual fees can be valuable, they can also be canceled or downgraded. However, for general users, a no-annual-fee credit card can help avoid any burden.

Based on the three points mentioned earlier, the most suitable credit card I can think of is the Citi Custom Cash. Its main advantage is that you can get a 5% cashback if you use it for a specific type of expense, regardless of your spending habits. The current sign-up bonus is probably $200 for spending $1,500. So, after buying the phone, you can spend a bit more to meet the requirements. The highest bonus was $300 for spending $1,000, but it was only available for a limited time when the card was first released. Unfortunately, I didn't apply during that period. Another card to consider is the Chase IHG Traveler, offering points as a bonus for spending $2,000. However, this card doesn't have the highest historical point bonus right now.

For more general recommendations, here are some no-annual-fee cashback cards:
  • Bank of America Customized Cash
  • Chase Freedom Flex
  • American Express Blue Cash Everyday
  • Capital One Savor One
  • US Bank Cash Plus
These cards are all excellent with no annual fees, and you can choose based on your spending habits. However, keep in mind that some of these cards may have lower spending requirements, like $500 or $1,000, so buying a phone might exceed those limits.

Additionally, there are many flat cashback cards that offer a 2% return. For example, the Citi Double Cash card. This card currently seems to have a $200 bonus for spending $1500, making it a good choice. However, for me, a 2% cashback rate is too low, so I usually apply for category-specific cards. But if you don't want to spend too much time on credit cards, the Citi Double Cash is indeed a good option. Since it's unclear which category Spectrum falls into when buying a phone, whether it's considered online shopping or a telecom company, getting a 2% cashback is still good.

I have referral links for some of these cards. If you're planning to apply, you can contact me. Using my link will NOT increase your chances of approval, but it will help me get a reward from the credit card company.

Has anyone actually done this debit card switch with spectrum mobile on a previous trade in deal? I might try it as I don't want to lose my Amex offers from this purchase. I did get a refund by "check" on my spectrum Internet account and that arrived as a prepaid credit card that I then transferred to my bank account by ACH. No offense but I don't really trust customer service reps they often make things up and don't know anything at all.
If I were to say, I'm 75% confident that this is feasible. Because the process is straightforward, you just need to change your autopay method online. It doesn't involve any manual intervention and can be done directly on the website. Last year, I used a credit card for payment, then changed the payment method to another credit card and received the refund on that credit card. I chose to refund to a credit card instead of a debit card because my debit card is linked to my checking account with a significant amount of money. It's not very secure to expose the debit card number. So, I attempted to switch it to another credit card and received the refund successfully. As a result, the rewards from the credit card I used to purchase the phone were retained, but the credit card rewards used for the refund were deducted. If I had switched to a debit card at that time, this wouldn't have happened. Therefore, I believe there's a 75% chance of success, but I can't guarantee it because I haven't tried it myself.

I upgraded an existing free line without issues.
Did you trade in the phone that was on the existing line, or could you send them a different phone?

What phone do I currently have on your lines? It's asking me to trade in my current phone, and I was wondering if there's a way to skip that step.

The line was originally for a pixel 8 pro but I sold that phone a month ago. I'm using a OnePlus 9 right now on that line. I'm trading in an iPhone 6 plus. The pixel and the OnePlus really don't matter in regards to this S24 deal and the trade in offer. When you say it's asking you to trade in your current phone I think you are misunderstanding it's asking you to "replace" the current phone with the new S24. I think during the order process it mentioned I was replacing my current pixel that doesn't exist anymore.

The refund is going back to the card you set up for auto pay. So you can switch autopay to another card and then request a refund. If they allow debit card for auto pay that will be best option.

Does the trade in offer require a port in from a different carrier or I can request a new number? Thanks
