HP has had hinge issues for decades, I doubt they'll ever fix them. I stopped buying HP specifically for that reason. I had 3-4 that all had the same issues spanning many, many years.
I've owned many many laptops, at least 5 from HP, several from Dell, a Compaq (back in the day), an IBM (baaack in the day), and two Lenovo's, and none of them have ever had hinge issues. I don't open and close them more than a couple times a day, and I've traveled 10's of thousands of miles with them, international flights...cross-country drives, and even on a few boating adventures.

Perhaps you shouldn't toss your computer around so much...? Every brand has had a dud model or two in its lineup with specific issues, but to claim HP laptops have hinge issues spanning 4+ generations? Sorry, don't buy it.

I take very good care of my stuff and used them constantly (your "international travel" means nothing). I've owned several different brands as well for work or home use, and only ever had an issue with HP/Compaq. I had a couple Dell's that lasted 15 years with no issues. We actually used ours repeatedly though, opening way more than a couple times a day. Maybe you didn't use yours enough. Maybe you got lucky, but I've only ever had issues with HP, and won't buy them again. You shouldn't assume people trash their stuff just because you haven't had that issue.

Would this run fornite or do I need something better ? Thanks

Need something better. This is a low cost CPU using the older Zen2 chip. Good for keeping the price low, low power usage, but not great for any real gaming.

Look for a 7730u system like these deals...

The 7735u and 7740u are faster but the 7730u is usually cheaper.

would this run fortnite? Yes absolutely.

Would it run it well? Meh. In performance mode you can't likely get 60fps.

Did HP ever fix their hinge issue? I have an old one with the hinge issue and I need a new one.
They did on the lower end ones many years ago. maybe pre 2019 or so? I knew several who had hinge issues on older ones, but nobody I know has had issues with any purchased in the last 5 years.

Absolutely not.

The CPU is a 7520U, AKA Mendocino, a quad core with an architecture from 2019 (Zen 2). It's iGPU is a pathetic 2 CU.

This laptop can not play games, and will struggle with even heavy normal use. I'd avoid it as its E-waste when you can get vastly better laptops for $400+
And i guess those pentium computers/laptops are 25 years old since pentium was around back in the 90's. Can't look at it that way my friend. This laptop will do pretty much most things very smoothly. Not a gaming laptop for sure but this should last you a good 5 years or more and still feel smooth. Add some ram though if you can. Get it to 16gb.

I picked this up last night. I am probably spoiled but the screen is horrible. My mistake at not verifying that the screen was IPS. Back it goes.

HP standard 250nits is what usually put me off.

Specifically for this laptop, it is not explicitly stated that this has a IPS display according to HP page (https://support.hp.com/us-en/prod...ku=8F1A6UA)

I further checked HP website, this is actually a SVA (Standard Viewing Angle) display.
In HP's world, UWVA (Ultra Wide Viewing Angle) is usually or always an IPS panel, whereas SVA is usually or always a TN panel.

The Lenovo $350 deal (IPS touch) is a better choice taking into account of this crucial difference.

Please stop sharing miss information. It is not 2019 zen2. It is zen2 but 2023. It has an iGPU with RDNA technology unlike the Vega series which would have come out with zen2. Also keep in mind zen2 the best cpu you could buy was the ryzen 7 3700u which had a Passmark score of about 7000, and this 7520u score is about 10,000. AND its running DDR5

So please don't share the intel misinformation that is being shared out there.

This is AMDs low end cpu they have out there. Aka Intel celeron equivalent and last I checked those things are half the performance of this

And on top of that to debunk any ideas about this being a recycled 2019 chip, it's on a smaller process node, made RECENTLY

This is a budget cpu that gives performance of an i7 4790k. That's amazing.
It's RDNA2 but only has 2 CUs, vs 12 in the better 7040 series iGPUs. Graphics performance is significantly worse than the Vega iGPUs from 3-4 years ago.

As for processor performance, this "Ryzen 5 7000 series" processor is below the performance of a Core i3 and Ryzen 3 that were released 2 full years earlier, in early 2021:

I picked up this exact model last December when it was priced at 359 and can validate that the screen is crap and it's non IPS with horrible viewing angle and locked in 6 bit color mode The performance for general web browsing and office productivity and running 3d printing slicer software was decent. But due to that screen, I'm on the edge of returning before Jan 31st.
