I have one of these mounted outside under an eave of my house hooked up to a raspberry pi running Birdnet-Pi to record and analyze the bird sounds in my yard. No batteries needed -- the H1n can draw all of its needed power from the rpi's USB bus, no problem. It's been running 24/7 since May 2022 throughout the cold New England winters and humid summers. Every time these go on sale for around this price I snag one and put together a birdnet-pi kit for a friend. The sampling rate even allows for some limited bat vocalization recording as well (but if you're trying to do that seriously, you're going to choose a much better-suited setup).

Absolutely fantastic devices for this price.

I really want to jump on this as I've been in the market for some time, but I'm trying really hard to only have USB-C devices in my life these days. Micro USB kills it for me.

Bought this on sale for $80 over 2 years ago. With how much everything has gone up in price since then, this is an insane deal. I attached mine to a mic stand with a pop filter and use it as a gaming mic.

The zoom h1n is known for be a great entry audio device whether you do music and want a device to record audio or video for external audio or even podcasting it's a great device and you get what you pay for plus zoom has a 1 year warranty and as long you pay shipping to them then will fix or replace your device.

Edit I realized it was on sale at this price 2 months ago but generally when it was on sale it was around $70.

Does anyone have any experience with this recording live concerts with stealth external microphones? Looking to get back into taping shows. I already have excellent microphones, I just need a budget recording device. Thanks.

Same here but got for I think $90. But totally agree it's good bang for the buck.

I canceled my order. 2-input recording means it records the left and right channel (stereo). I was hoping to use it for live performances and have the line-in record my bass guitar and the built in mic record the room. However when line-in is connected the built-in mic becomes disabled. I think I would need to upgrade to the H4n.

I've used it outdoors, but it needs a windscreen and will also pick up handling noise if you're holding it. You can plug a lapel mic into the aux in and keep the H1N in your pocket to be more stealth.

Does this recorder offer guitar effects/amps like older Zoom mics? I know you can plug into a MacBook as an interface for GarageBand, but my old zoom mic has effects when you plug a guitar into it.

Can you run birdnet on an old android device and hook the h1n up to that?

Same question. I occasionally record bird calls that sound interesting to try and identify later and never actually get around to doing it. There are just so many around my house that this would be really cool.
