That's the problem though, if you cover your left ear you will still hear sounds on the left side of your head from your right ear (albeit, won't be able to determine direction). So technically you need both mics going to both, just at different volumes. You brain uses both ears and the volume each ear receives to determine the location of the sound.
I want directional sound, I don't care how they accomplish it. Either mic-to-speaker or mic+mic-to-circuit board (to mix audio at different levels per side)-to-speaker. That is their job to figure it out, whatever works. There are probably a dozen ways to accomplish the same thing.*

What I am NOT looking for is 4 channels combined into a single channel then transmitted equally into both headphones. With that mono output there is nothing for the brain to differentiation left vs right, therefore the brain cannot help determine the location of the sound as all sounds (appear) to be coming equally from all directions. That is not ideal in many use cases. Such as in construction where hearing where noises are coming from can be a life or death thing. Shooting ranges, tactical use, hunting, etc are other use cases where directional awareness is also super helpful. Mono is great for riding the lawn mower, using a chainsaw, solo construction work and so on.

*Caldwell E-Max does it but their muffs aren't great and happen to be HUGE.

I feel like this is going into one ear and out the other Wink

Get Peltor Tactical 500. It has directional mic, stereo, and Bluetooth to connect to your phone in case you hands are occupied while talking to 911. The directional mic is very good. You can tell where exactly the sound coming from, even just a slight movement. Battery lasts pretty long too.

anyone received this yet? I just got mine and it was in a plastic bag with battery taped to the plastic that holds the muffs. Clearly not brand new...
