got it.. but i see the CPU performance is marginally better than the I5 version based on the benchmarks i see. in some cases the I5 shines much better than the I7 version as well. so i guess it comes down to buyers preference and use case on i7 vs i5..

It's not just about the CPU performance but the GPU performance as well.
The 96 EUs performs noticeably better/faster than the 80 EUs with this i5.

I see it uses a physically smaller SSD than the 2280. Can anyone recommend a reliable 1 or 2tb version of this M.2?

I have the i7 version of this, build quality is solid, keyboard is great. The display 300nits is adequate for most if not all indoor use cases but I wish it was a bit brighter at 400nits. Colors are alright and good for everyday use.

Not sure if it was just my unit but the speakers sounded like they were struggling to hit lower-end frequency at low volumes (typically you'd hear the crackling at high volume).

The Vantage software was buggy and looking online, others with the same laptop had the same issue. The issue being the display adjustments (daytime color temp and eye care mode) in the vantage software disappear or become non-functional after windows & vantage update. The only solution I found was a factory reset.

Also, you'll want the lenovo active pen 2 to avoid jitters & lag. But even with the lenovo pen, it'll still have jitters from time to time, especially if the laptop is under load (though I wouldn't consider having a few firefox windows & pdfs open a high load situation). The lenovo active pen 2 also randomly stops working and the only way to turn it back on is to plug a usb cord to it (others have this issue as well, lenovo forums).

Battery life & fan noise is okay. the fan is not high pitched whine like the yoga 9i.

The quality of openbox excellent was practically new, had about 7 battery cycles.

I bought a new version of the i7 a few months ago. This is an excellent price for the i5, which should perform similar. The price is great and the build quality is very good. My only worry is how the hinge will hold up long-term as there are tons of comments of the hinges breaking on yogas. I don't use it in tablet mode, so it likely won't be an issue.

I have same concern and looked up in YouTube to see how easy the repair is , if it comes to a point it's broken . Got the Inspiron 2 in 1 from dell with i7 1360p , but the fan noise is annoying to an extent I am gonna keep the yoga and return the dell .. still debating as both are within the return window . Did you find anything specific to the 7i hinges being excessively problematic or yoga in general ?

FWIW I have heard lots of people worrying about hinge issues but never anyone who seems to have experienced them 1st hand. That differences raises a question or two.

Hi,

I've been using a 2017 version of the Yoga 13k and the hinges have held up without issue. The screen on mine is starting to do a flicker at times but only thing I've done is replace the battery...

I had the 2022 version (1235u processor) and had the microphone unit complete die on me. It is a mic/camera combo, so the customer service rep ended up having to replace the entire machine (under warranty) as the replacement parts were backordered for months. They ended up giving me the 2023 version, so ultimately I got an upgrade. And it took very little effort to get them to actually replace it for me, as opposed to making me wait. Otherwise I've had no issues with it and the hinges seem pretty sturdy imo, but I don't use it in tablet mode. I can also get a full day (8+ hours) out of it using power efficiency mode and lowering the brightness.

Well you finally met one.

It was an issue on my son's. The right hinge separated and started pulling the frame around the monitor off.

Repair quotes range was $200-350.
Just bought him a new one for $450.
We still have it for emergency use, if need a pic of Bigfoot.

I have the yoga with the long sound bar that's held up flawless though.

The problem isn't so much the hinge itself but the display cable that runs inside the hinge. It's a thin cable that runs inside a hollow cavity in the hinge just like every other laptop, but since it can open 360 degrees it's subjected to a lot more bending and stress. Which means it'll wear out far quicker than one on a standard laptop where it'll last forever. The display will start flickering first as the signals get interrupted which is what you're seeing now. And on many of these Yoga/flippy laptops the cable is bonded into the laminated glass touch display assembly and can't be separately replaced. I don't know if that's true of these ones but it's common and the real reason for the aversion that people have to them.

Where did you get the quote? My sisters broke after 2 years and we are trying to get a quote for fixing the hinges.
