They've been surrounded for almost the last 15 years I've been picking them
There is also coupon code for 10 off you can use.
While that may be true, that doesn't make it legal. The truth is you arguing against buying this 4k player simply because you chose to steal all your content is a flawed argument at best. It is like telling someone that spending $7 for a Stanley mug is a bad deal because you can just pick one up at Target and walk out of the store without paying for it.

My old Sony BR has those apps as well, which I find amusing when I see them on the menu. There's several on there that don't even exist anymore, but I don't think the player is "smart" enough to allow me to delete them.
If I wish to buy 4k 120hz tv does it has to say "Dolby ready/support" for the UB820 player?
I'm waiting for my 8 year old 55" Samsung 4k TV soft HDR 60hz (model # KU6300) to die so I have a just reason to buy a better 4k OLED(?) TV preferably from Sony and then get the UB820 player for the best audio/visual experience.
I may be wrong but I'm realizing that the ub820 player would be a bad buy for me right now with the current aging tv. Your thoughts? Curious to hear yours.
Will you benefit from the 820 now, in short yes.
The optimizer/HCX processing will help with almost all displays(& pjs).
As someone pointed out if DV is a priority, there are cheaper ways to getting it than the 820.
If DV isn't a big issue then the 420 makes more budget sense.
It uses the same processing minus DV for much less.
There are caveats to consider as some have pointed out with that.
Now whether DV is needed/worth it is a personal decision.
Samsung displays and this don't have to switch manually are a good example on how people are happy without it.
Got the Sony x700 Black Friday from Amazon - returned it this week and bought an open box Panny UB420 (expecting delivery tomorrow). My issue wasn't with enabling DV each time. My issue was with the fact that the X700 crashed repeatedly a good 80% of the time when playing UHD discs (mostly triple layer discs). It's a rampant and very well documented problem with that player. Absolutely/stunningly beautiful image - but not reliable in the least. Went through ALL the board recommended troubleshooting methods to coax it into not freezing/crashing/skipping - no luck. Played HD Blu-ray perfectly fine though. If you got one that doesn't crash - congrats, you're the lucky exception.
lol well no different than Sony brigaders that causally omit the very known freezing/glitch issues with Sony.
Having owned both and compared them side by side Panasonic(820/420) performance is better with all 3 disc formats.
That may be the reason the rare time a Panasonic player goes on sale people "kill" themselves to get one!
Panasonic hasn't been on sale much lately whereas Sony has been for like the last two months!
You can find refurbs on eBay regularly for under $100.
There is a reason for that. 🤷🏻 ♂️

I opted for the x700 at a time when the UB820 was on sale for about $350. Spent so much on the screen and sound, figured I'd save a few bucks and put it towards embiggening my 4k library. Monumental mistake.
I've never seen someone invest so much time and effort in a SD comment section for a product they have zero intention of purchasing. Not even sure if you have a clear point you're trying to make…
