Few things to note about these:

They don't require the laptop have DP alt mode on the USB-C connector, which can be a plus, but this means the displays are using DisplayLink which is an abstraction layer built up on USB, and uses the CPU and GPU to render these displays in software. Which if your system is decently powerful and has a dedicated GPU, isn't really a huge issue, but if it has only CPU integrated graphics, DisplayLink performance can be quire terrible under certain conditions, like doing anything that's tasking the GPU with even something as "simple" as YouTube playback, and gaming is out of the question.

They're generally fine for most office uses, but gaming is not going to be a fun experience and if you have no dedicated GPU, even watching videos can lead to the display becoming a stuttering mess.

DisplayLink is useful, but it's not a replacement for a true display connection, like docks that connect over DisplayPort alt mode. But if your laptop doesn't have DP Alt Mode, this is the only way you're going to get a docking station, so it does have some uses.

If you have WalMart GC to burn, they have it also for $20, the seller being HP

Just a heads up, this is a displaylink dock.

Probably fine for most users and office use. Just be aware it will require additional drivers to output video to an external monitor, and you will not be able to drive dedicated GPU graphics to an external monitor with this dock if that is something you need.

Is this what I need if I want to connect my work laptop to my home desktop to use my monitors, keyboard and mouse?
I am planning to use this in conjunction with a UGreen USB switch https://www.ugreen.com/products/ugreen-usb-3-0-4-port-switch [ugreen.com]. My monitors have multiple inputs on them, so it's just a matter of running another DP or HDMI cable.

I'd say most monitors will automatically go to the input that has the signal actively on it. So unless your main PC and laptop is running, you likely only need to press button on the UGreen USB switch like I will be doing.

What's the work around? Thanks

Please share the work around.
Should be just needing to install DisplayLink driver. That is all that was needed for our office running these on Macs.

Why does it show barrel connector on the picture?
Power supply to the dock.

For you it's dead, probably never worked.

…Is NOT worth risk. Cheap power delivery where people have fried MBs and ports tells me there is possible fluctuating PD. I would not plug this into my pricey laptops. No way. Good luck on the gamble.
Amazon has multiple versions on the product page. From what I see the reviews claiming fried motherboard were for a different version.

The main power supply provides a barrel connector for power to the dock module. The dock module can then use a usb-c to provide power to the laptop.

Its tempting for $20 but I read a sperate review on AMZN that said it fried their motherboard. That I dont need. Pennywise pound foolish. Also it says TB3 compatible, but what does that really mean? Connect TB3 cable and it will work with the TB3 port?
That review looks like it was for dock190 and not dock 182

Maybe I'm stupid but how does the power get from the dock to my laptop? I imagine usb-c but I don't see that cord pictured. If it is pictured and is the usb-c with the prongs on either side...I don't have places for the prongs to go on my laptop.
