Few things to note about these:

They don't require the laptop have DP alt mode on the USB-C connector, which can be a plus, but this means the displays are using DisplayLink which is an abstraction layer built up on USB, and uses the CPU and GPU to render these displays in software. Which if your system is decently powerful and has a dedicated GPU, isn't really a huge issue, but if it has only CPU integrated graphics, DisplayLink performance can be quire terrible under certain conditions, like doing anything that's tasking the GPU with even something as "simple" as YouTube playback, and gaming is out of the question.

They're generally fine for most office uses, but gaming is not going to be a fun experience and if you have no dedicated GPU, even watching videos can lead to the display becoming a stuttering mess.

DisplayLink is useful, but it's not a replacement for a true display connection, like docks that connect over DisplayPort alt mode. But if your laptop doesn't have DP Alt Mode, this is the only way you're going to get a docking station, so it does have some uses.

If you have WalMart GC to burn, they have it also for $20, the seller being HP

Just a heads up, this is a displaylink dock.

Probably fine for most users and office use. Just be aware it will require additional drivers to output video to an external monitor, and you will not be able to drive dedicated GPU graphics to an external monitor with this dock if that is something you need.

The bad reviews on the HP site don't have anything to do with power issues though. They're about Mac compatibility and HDCP issues.
Well HDCP issues is something I can do without.

Don't believe that original listed price, and this review might be the reason why it's being clearanced:

Review on Amazon: Targus docking causes power surges strong enough to blow out a laptop https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/revi...uage=en-US [amazon.com]

I bought this for work but what's up with the review that says you can't watch Netflix or play games while using it?
I'm using this in a M1 MacBook.
This uses DisplayLink to extend screens, which is seen as screen mirroring or screen recording. It triggers the copyright protection tool of streaming services and blocks the video.
If using a webbrowser, turning off graphics hardware acceleration on the browser settings helps. There doesn't seem to be a workaround when using apps.

You'll clearly believe anything, so I'm disregarding your opinion.

Okay....so what reviews do you recommend we look at?
I guess the ones on HP's site? Or dive into YT. I don't have all the answers, but wanted to make sure people knew that the Amazon listing actually didn't have this particular model listed.

Is this what I need if I want to connect my work laptop to my home desktop to use my monitors, keyboard and mouse?
It will certainly help but you will also need a KVM switch.
