Few things to note about these:

They don't require the laptop have DP alt mode on the USB-C connector, which can be a plus, but this means the displays are using DisplayLink which is an abstraction layer built up on USB, and uses the CPU and GPU to render these displays in software. Which if your system is decently powerful and has a dedicated GPU, isn't really a huge issue, but if it has only CPU integrated graphics, DisplayLink performance can be quire terrible under certain conditions, like doing anything that's tasking the GPU with even something as "simple" as YouTube playback, and gaming is out of the question.

They're generally fine for most office uses, but gaming is not going to be a fun experience and if you have no dedicated GPU, even watching videos can lead to the display becoming a stuttering mess.

DisplayLink is useful, but it's not a replacement for a true display connection, like docks that connect over DisplayPort alt mode. But if your laptop doesn't have DP Alt Mode, this is the only way you're going to get a docking station, so it does have some uses.

If you have WalMart GC to burn, they have it also for $20, the seller being HP

Just a heads up, this is a displaylink dock.

Probably fine for most users and office use. Just be aware it will require additional drivers to output video to an external monitor, and you will not be able to drive dedicated GPU graphics to an external monitor with this dock if that is something you need.

No! you are wrong ! it is DisplayLink (USB graphic ), not USB-C DP alt mode dock.
If you don't know , Now you should know.
Do research if you still want to argue!
I provided a link to the manufacturers specifications. If you're not satisfied with that, what research have you done that makes you believe they're wrong about their own product?

As said there is no "USB-C DP alt mode " wording in production description ! you try to make up!
we all know that it is DisplayLink dock -- an obsoleted technology, but it is good for some people's need.
it is compatible the USB port with alt mode (to use as USB port), but not use it for alt mode

you cannot read! it is under "Compatibility".
it uses dp alt port as a USB port, not pull video from it.
newbie never understands underlying detail!
you will be shamed on yourself!

Trying to figure out if this guy's for real or not...

Regardless whether it's DP-ALT or Displaylink, if I connect this hub to another hub which has HDMI (non displaylink) on it, can I still get through without using displaylink? Or does everything connected to this hub force displaylink?

It is using technology of DisplayLink, use USB as graphic card (need software driver). The dock is using DisplayLink DL6000 chip .
USB-C DP alt mode is a physical connection from USB type C to the monitor (from PC graphics card)

I have this dock installed on a Windows 11 laptop. I didn't install the Displaylink driver, and I searched in settings for a way to disable it, and I see nothing that allows me to do that. My laptop supports TB4 and DP alt over USB

Your PC obviously preinstalled DisplayLink driver. You can see it from DeviceManager to see the display adapter.
I manage and deploy my company Windows PC OS image , preload the displaylink driver in company PCs.
Many OEM version Windows could already deployed with DisplayLink driver

I'm still trying to determine if I'm getting a $150-$200 dock or a $40-$50 dollar dock for $20.

Prices & comments are all over the place...
$40-50 since it is using usb for the display.

The HP $300+ msrp is inflated as all things msrp are, but why such a huge range? Was this dock closer to that price when it released however many years ago? I've been wanting one, but random Chinese branding has kept me away.

I'm not canceling either way because Targus is a known brand, but this is the most confused I've ever been.
I think it was originally designed to be a higher end dock, but when they cheapened out on the video and people noticed it, the sales didn't meet expectations so clearing inventory now.

I noticed that on Targus product page, in specs it has the following:
Host Port Compatibility
USB-A and USB-C, DP Alt. Mode, TB3 Compatible

is this a typo? but DP alt mode is listed there.
So then if this has it, it's a good deal and is a $200+ dock.

My Walmart order (California) arrived today. Not sure what to do with it b/c already have 3 HP docking stations. Guess another case of Slickdeals good deal, bought without a reason to.
Where in CA? Might be interested in it if it works the way I need it to.

Your command of the English language is impressive. And you seem to be the only one posting incorrect information about this dock.
You're company must be much successful 🤣

I'm on board with your comments, but "your" lack of English command by using "you're company" is filled with irony!
