Few things to note about these:

They don't require the laptop have DP alt mode on the USB-C connector, which can be a plus, but this means the displays are using DisplayLink which is an abstraction layer built up on USB, and uses the CPU and GPU to render these displays in software. Which if your system is decently powerful and has a dedicated GPU, isn't really a huge issue, but if it has only CPU integrated graphics, DisplayLink performance can be quire terrible under certain conditions, like doing anything that's tasking the GPU with even something as "simple" as YouTube playback, and gaming is out of the question.

They're generally fine for most office uses, but gaming is not going to be a fun experience and if you have no dedicated GPU, even watching videos can lead to the display becoming a stuttering mess.

DisplayLink is useful, but it's not a replacement for a true display connection, like docks that connect over DisplayPort alt mode. But if your laptop doesn't have DP Alt Mode, this is the only way you're going to get a docking station, so it does have some uses.

If you have WalMart GC to burn, they have it also for $20, the seller being HP

Just a heads up, this is a displaylink dock.

Probably fine for most users and office use. Just be aware it will require additional drivers to output video to an external monitor, and you will not be able to drive dedicated GPU graphics to an external monitor with this dock if that is something you need.

They work fine with my normal USB C Dock, but wont go above 30Hz on this Targus dock. May be a limitation of DisplayLink. Researching it now.
Ooo those cables are 20% off right now. That's slick!

Found this so far:
The maximum resolution supported is 3840x2160 @ 30Hz. See more information on the maximum resolutions supported through DisplayLink video outputs.
Maybe 4K 60hz is only supported for displayport?

I contacted HP via the WMT site and got this:
Thank you for contacting the Official HP Store on Walmart Marketplace.

I wanted to let you know that we had a pricing error on our Walmart marketplace website and we aren't able to sell this model at this price. Unfortunately, we've had to cancel your order due to the pricing error.

The pricing error has now been corrected and you can now rebook your order on our Walmart store with the corrected price.

We truly do apologize for this error and thank you for your patience.

Excellent! Is it still indicating that it's using DisplayLink?

Nice, maybe your monitor has limited refresh rates depending on the port?

Yeah it is, included snip in my last post.It will run slower than using a USB C dock and alt mode, but still is fine for normal office tasks and web browsing.

Maybe if he attempted to explain -why- he was so sure, despite the information from the manufacturer combined with multiple users that have received it and not used DisplayLink drivers, the conversation would at least make some sense.
It uses DisplayLink;
If you don't know, you would rather not say.

It uses DisplayLink, it limits under 4K@30hz.
If you don't know, you rather no to say.
Funny that you say that, when the most recent post has it running in 4k at 60hz (yes, running Display Link - I'm aware).

Try again, with a source?

There is one perk of this being displayport - you could use this with an android phone that does not natively have hdmi out function. I tried it on my low end phone and it worked pretty well. much much better than wireless mirroring.
I am very happy with this purchase, and I bought 3. I have a few sub $15 usb-c hub from amazon that support DP alt, so these extra displayport dock are very useful for different purpose.

I'm not sure how to make this any clearer.

It -is- an alt mode dock. That is clearly outlined in the manufacturers specifications.

It is a DisplayLink device. There is a giant sticker on the dock that states so. Nice thing about this is your computer does not even need a USB-C port to to connect to your display. A USB-A port will work just fine.Link: https://static.bhphoto.com/images...744684.jpg
