That's like saying "I bought a 4k TV but I just watch it in 1080p because it doesn't work well when using the 4k feature."
The fact these are on Woot a few months after product launch is a good sign...
I have a Pixel 7 and have recently experienced bugs. Fortunately an update seemed to fix them, but the fingerprint reader is the one thing that never works on the phone. It makes me so angry they removed the rear fingerprint reader.

You can get the OnePlus 12 for $670 right now. That includes a free ram and storage upgrade to 16bg/512gb. OnePlus 12 is way closer to an s24 ultra than it is to a pixel. The camera is not as good and it doesn't have AI features, but everything else is pretty much on par. AI could be added later as it is software. Heck, even the OnePlus 12r is probably better than the pixel as long as you don't need a top of the line camera. You can get the 12r for $370 right now. Coupon code tech30 plus recycle any old/broken phone for $100 off.

For what it's worth, I've had a Pixel 8 for a couple of months now and haven't noticed any issues. I bought it in part for the industry-best 7 years of full OS & security updates and 7 years of guaranteed hardware parts availability, in case it ever needs repairs.

I have a Pixel 7 and love it, no issues with bugs at all. Batterry lasts a full day. Love the pure android experience

Any comments on how the camera quality is on this vs a 6a? As far as stabilization, 4k/60 video, and still quality. Just wondering if it is worth an upgrade.
Video much better, photos moderately better. The focal length on the 8 is such that it's easier to get natural bokeh (background blur) on shots, but honestly, the 6a takes a great still photo even now. Video will be a significant upgrade because of the upgraded lenses across the board on the 8 series.

I pretty much am sticking with my pixel 6 pro until I can determine something solid and worth getting that has good battery life, takes great photos and has a headphone jack and at least 5 years of os updates. It's nice that the 8 has expanded the os update support but the other issues with battery and stuff has me iffy.

I had that happen too, turns out it was actually a failed board which happened to a lot of users. Mine was over a year old and out of warranty, but they ended up fixing it for free.

Of course that sucked as I lost all the stuff on my phone that wasn't backed up, and after the phone was fixed I never used it again. I was also turned off Pixels, and didn't want to subsidize their move to Tensor (really pathetic vs Snapdragon 8 gen 2 or 3), using crappy Exynos modems which Samsung themselves went away from, and overhyping AI capabilities during their launch event. The final straw was seeing one particular presenter at their launch event that had no business being on stage - just a horrible presenter who enunciated poorly while simultaneously saying nothing of substance. Just a bad decision to put her on stage...another sign that many parts of Google have lost their way.
Anyway, long story short I ended up caving based on value. I got in on the Youtube Premium deal and was able to trade in the aforementioned Pixel 5a for 200 bucks, so it was less than 300 bucks to get the Pixel 8. I still haven't opened the phone as I was looking forward to just selling/trading it for a proper Snapdragon Gen 3 phone like the OnePlus 12 or a Samsung 24 Ultra, but now it looks like I'll have to kick in quite a bit more to get those phones. (Also while both those phones are superior in most ways to the Pixel 8, AFAICT they both still suffer from poor shutter lag.) I think I'm going to end up eating my words and sticking with the Pixel for another generation.

Never had some a buggy Android in the last 6 years. Had pixel 6 and 7 and the GPS and constant bugs throughout the os

I have 7 Pro from the Mint deal. Basically was free after factoring in the year of wireless service. Just a crap phone. Constantly drops cell signal and you have to toggle airplane mode on and off to get it back. Slow, laggy. GPS very iffy. Buy a Samsung S series or an iPhone.

Too much money for a Pixel. TIV usually very poor and resale not great.

Also a great phone for me, as you mentioned the finger print reader disappoints, battery life has been excellent ,

Purchased a Pixel 8 during the holiday season. No regrets. Very happy with it. Came from Sony Xperia 1 III. I've always been hesitant to try Samsung ecosystem because of the UI and bloatware. Stock Android experience has been wonderful. I haven't experienced any of the aforementioned bugs. In normal usage I never have to worry about the battery dying in a day. To be fair, I don't need Snapdragon gen whatever since I don't do anything that intensive, i.e. Games and such. I can usually go a day and a half before charging. I mainly use it for YouTube and music. Also, I don't use the camera that heavily. The photos that I have taken look really nice and there's a suite of photo editing features. mmw 5g is insanely fast, almost as fast as wifi. There are lots of options out there, but I'm glad I chose Pixel 8.

Hate to tell you, but in 2024, you're seemingly very reasonable feature set exists on virtually no phones, at least in the US

Pixel phone modems are choppy. You never get connectivity. You will lose value in 2 months. Had 6 pro and moved 7 pro..very tough to trade in. Finally got just 180$ for 900$ year old 7 pro on Google store only for S24.

Avoid these pixel..not worth the money. Free is fine
