Not surprising you feel that way especially if you have listened and liked the product.

If you think about it, status and measurements are one of thee biggest bias there is.
If one believes some "expert" listens and then provides measurements that says it defines what he heard will ACTUALLY tell anyone how it will sound to them in their home, that is a HUGE bias!

I often disagree with these experts and their measurements after listening myself.
It's not surprising to me since we are talking about two different locations/environments and two different preferences for starters.
I had ordered the d17s from the other deal, the functional channel sounded beautiful over the full range of frequencies when I fed it with power from my emotiva, otherwise they struggled a bit is what I felt at higher volumes(when receiver fed)! Unfortunately one of them came with a broken inductor lead, and hence I had to return them. I even felt the bass is crisper than my Polk lsims. So I was about to try my luck again and order another pair, and that's when the triangle br09 deal came up. Now confused which one to buy, as I have no direct experience with the triangle line

Iv'e heard the br09s and they do sound nice but they are a much different sound than the d17s.
My belief is your ears are the true indicator and if the d17s sounded beautiful, enough said.
I vote stick to what you have heard and just enjoy.

Love the brand. But mine are all between 5 and 12 years old.

How did you know it was a broken inductor lead? I ask because one of my D15s was shipped with the bottom two drivers not making any sound, and there's a rattle towards the bottom. I replaced both drivers and still no luck

I have the DT in wall speakers and the DN10's. I'm a big fan. The sub retails for 799 on sale sometimes for 599 alone.

I came to the comments expecting a bit of snark, but was not prepared for DOWNVOTE YOUR GENTLE SUGGESTION to find WHAT SOUNDS GOOD TO YOUR OWN EARS and all of LonelySparrow's snark.

I did discover Erin's Audio Corner though, so that's cool.

I've been avoiding the d17s, but this might be too good to pass, right? D17s are $700 (they were $1500 not long ago and were way more when they first came out), the sub is over $400, the center is over $400, and the surrounds are over $400 if you choose that path for $1500.

Are there any trustworthy reviews on the d17s? The only thing I've heard is they take more power to push
I have a very old version on this model. I have BP 8080ST and love them. Bought refurbished on ebay in 2016 and still going strong. They are driven by Denon X4200 and that is more than sufficient. It gets super loud and tons of bass.

I'm upgrading my 2007 Onkyo surround system and considering these. What would be a good receiver to run these on, say under $800?

A few questions that would help with suggestions.
What type of system are you after?
What features do you need/want?
Are you getting this all at once?

Picked up the D17's, D5C center, X3800 Slickdeal last Christmas for 1799 and couldn't be more pleased. Just keepin mind these towers are side specific (L, R) so replacing may be an issue down the road.

We kind of have to rely on reviews because it's impossible to listen to every speaker and these prices aren't for the feint of heart. I have Nuance tower and center speaker. Yes, i said nuance. I don't have a complaint about them, but I'm sure the newer technology would sound better. How much better though? The upgrade to d17 or Bro9 might only be marginal.. I don't know. I often buy things just to buy things and new speakers might be one of those things.
