Any Michael Crichton book is definitely a treat to read ! The movies Jurassic park don't do real justice to the book he wrote.

I'm looking for any similar authors..if anyone has any recommendations..pls do post here

I wouldn't call it a sequel as much as fan fiction that they somehow got Crichton's estate to let him use his name on. Far cry from the original.
I was actually surprised (in a good way) for the first 50 or so pages of Evolution. Then it went downhill fast. I can't recall if this was a book that he started and someone else completed or if it is 100% a new author. In any case, I thought it was very, very weak - especially when compared to AS.

Original AS is such a great book. Some goofy stuff for sure (highly recommend Spillover as a current virus non-fiction book) but many aspects hold up well 50 years later. Pretty hard to do with a topic that is evolving rapidly.

Someone just needs to finally turn this into a proper TV/movie. Attempts to date are pretty awful.

The Hot Zone by Richard Preston is my recommendation to read along with the Andromeda Strain

Depends on what you like best about Crichton -- the fantastic elements or the grounded realism.

I'd recommend Arthur C Clarke and Larry Niven as authors that have a similar feel to Crichton. I am particularly fond of Clarke's 2010 and Niven's The Mote in God's Eye.

Great story. Lots of tension and suspense. Too bad it didn't translate too well to the silver screen.
I don't think that it can translate well for today's audiences. The tension and suspense comes from the methodical tedium of laboratory work against a ticking clock. Makes the pages turn fast but makes a movie crawl by. It adapts well for the slow drawn-out style of late 1960's and 1970's sci-fi movies but if you are used to modern pacing...
